I can fix it!

Trying to help out a friend on this one and I am completely out of my element having never worked on an old Bally.  Machine was working fine except the pull handle would not retract.  Root cause was the little piston cylinder assembly (whatever you call it) on the right side of the reels which had gotten extremely stiff (handle was very hard to pull as well).  Fixed the pull handle problem but in doing so I had removed the MPU on the left side during what turned out to be an unnecessary disassembly operation (wish I would have left it alone - but I didn't know what I was doing and had to remove it to remove the reel shelf to get to the handle mechanism thinking there was something wrong with it).  Anyway, this was the only electronics I removed/disconnected other than the reels.  Now the machine will not play and has a steady 0  006 on the display.  Not sure what this means.  Any suggestions.  Hopefully I didn't do something to the MPU.  At least it did play before I messed with it.    I see in the manual that a code 6 could mean a memory failure of some kind but the code does not flash/alternate with another code (showing a chip number etc...) and all other digits are zero or blank.     Scratch Head

Start by removing those ribbon cables from the MPU board and gently clean them up then reconnect them.  If that doesn't help then do the same with the piggy backed memory board.  Be gentle and mindful of ESD.  Burning Resistor

Good luck,

OK Just to close out this topic in hopes it will help someone else, Here is what happened.  I could not find anything wrong anywhere (switches, reseating of connectors, etc..nothing made a difference) so I checked the battery and it was completely dead.  So I replaced the battery with a Ni-Cad pack for a cordless phone and without even charging the battery the machine now works just fine.  Had to do a reset on power up and that was it.  So the premise is that the bad battery may have been dragging down the 5V and causing the problems with the tilt condition.
