New to board and Slot Ownership

Hello to all!!.  I have been undertaking the project of building a man cave, rec room.  I decided one of the toys that would be cool was a slot machine. I watched craigslist, and eventually purchased a Sizzling 7's nickel machine.  I paid $500 for it with the stand.   I spent a little time cleaning it up.  I have since found this website, and it has been a good resource for some basic material.

I have posted a picture.

Couple questions about it:

1.  This is an s2000 correct

2.  Currently the player tracking area is covered with a poorly cut piece of plastic material.  Do you know where I could get something to cover that, that would look nicer?  Black plastic?, Chrome, Mirror?  

3.  Also the glass area next to the center glass has a slot for a ticket printer that is not there.  Is is possible to replace that piece of glass with one that does not have that ticket slot?

4.  I only get sound from the left speaker.  I have checked the connections. I also tested the right speaker with a different audio source, and it is fine.  Is this normal?  Are only some games in stereo?

You poor bastard, good thing you havent cluttered your game room yet because once the slot bug gets hold of you - you will need the space for more (lots more).

Correct - you can always tell a S2000 by the speakers that look like ears.

Ben at Fanninis (see banner add on our home page) can set you up with a blank replacement. Alternatively you can buy player tracking equipment. These are pretty much a dime a dozen as most homes lack the back end casino management system to drive such a device, however you can find info on the site to reprogram them so they display the name of the home casino or advertise your wifes chicken pot pie.

You can get new glass - again I defer you to any of the vendors with banner adds. Incidently these folks don't pay for their ad space they get it free for being good to our membership.
Can't say enough about most of them. You can also get a ticket printer that could print out the name of your home casino along side the amount of the win.

I am not going to be much help for you as my slots are all much older. However I am sure another member will hop right in here and fill in the blanks.....

About your speakers you Lilrascal ,
Upstairs in the topbox is a 2-wire harness with green and
white wires going to the 2 ear speakers.
Check and see if they are not broken.  
The speakers are held in there with 4 screws.  
You can take the 4 screws out and look inside the speaker
enclosure to see if they're connected too!  
I'd save that reel glass with the hole for the ticket printer.  
You're gonna need it when you decide to buy a ticket printer
and install it - believe me, that won't be long....

Thanks to all for the welcome and advice.  I have checked speaker connections and to sound board.  All seams fine.  I removed speaker with the four screws, and hooked up to a radio, and the speaker works fine on its own.

I will contact Ben at Fanninis about a replacement player tracking blank. 

Some have mentioned adding a printer.  From what I have seen, these don't appear to be cheap.  I have always enjoyed the old school coins dropping.  Is there any other advantages or benefits that would persuade me to add a printer?

The speaker itself may be fine and it was good that you checked it.
However, sometimes inside the connector molex housing, the pins and
receptor pins that make the actual contact become oxidized and
push out poor, sporadic, and intermittent sounds.

A member named reho33 strongly suggests a product
called "De-Oxit" and he has had good success with it.
Basically he sprays the stuff into connectors and it cleans the oxidization off of the metal contacts.
A little tug on each individual wire going into the back of the connector Molex housings
will insure you that the wires are firmly attached to the pins and are not hanging
by the plastic wire covering or single strand of wire.

Another thing that happens with S2000's is that a resistor or one of the many
IC components on that amplifier board go out of specifications.
This is due to poor heat ventilation when those machines were running 24/7 in live casinos.
The heat inside of an s2000 topbox running 24/7 with fluorescent light and poor /burned out
fan will get fairly high causing premature life of any IC components in the topbox.
It is not too expensive to replace the entire amp board and I'm sure that if you put up an
ad for one in the "Classifieds" section of NLG - someone will come through and sell you one!
However, it may be still quite possible that a poor ground wire
somewhere is the reason for the missing speaker sound.


As far as a printer, the reason I like having one in my personal
machine is mainly for the authenticity of the machine.
The S2000's were designed to have them and I like to try to get my
machine working as much as possible to a "live" machine.
The hole in the reel glass on your machine is sort of like having a cheap economy
car with plastic covers over the options on the dashboard.  

Ben Fannini is an extremely good vendor with many parts.
I have nothing but good things to say about him and his business.
If you ask him, he may have these other parts for your machine as well!
