S2000 Barcrest board swap

Hi guys, I put the Enhanced board set in my Money Mad Martians tonight and after a few resets, setting denom and some ram errors it worked ok for about 3 spins, except no sound. So I went in and looked at sound and volume setting and everything was ok. Reseated simm card, checked all plugs and what not. Turned machine back on and now I'm getting a message display that says "top button I/O card not found. Any ideas?

UPDATE- Got the game to work again using a 97 chip, but still no sound. Simm was working fine on the 504a board and mml lite that I removed earlier

Cowboy   I have 2 Wild Cherry machines exactly alike, both had Enhanced MPU's.  One board I could get sound, nothing out of the other.  Switched parts back and forth and came to the conclusion that one of the boards was NFG

Just read your uodate.  I didn't have a  SIMM installed. I bet if you switch back to the 504 your sound will come back.

I think you're right about a bad board. Picked the set up off ebay and just got a chance to install it. Might have to call seller and see what he'll do. I keep gettig reall weird error messages and think it might be the motherboard. If it wrecks my Money Mad Martian chips I'm gonna be PISSED! Don't know how I'd replace them

Well you could think about making a investment in a programmer, back them up before you screw them up.

Expect to pay from $100 to $300      I think most folks use a Willem GQ-4X  cost about $100 plus you will need some adapters, I don't know what they cost.  I have a Batronix BX 40 I don't need any adapters for what I use it for, cost around $300. From what I can gather the Batronix is about 6 times faster programing a 8 MEG chip than the GQ-4X

I strongly suggest that you do not read the thread Bunker suggested. You will be so confussed you will never want to see a programmer. 

Send me the chips you want backed up. It will only cost you the price of the blank chips. But be advised I will keep a copy of your chips !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bunker  How long does it take you to burn a 8 Meg chip?  Couple of weeks ago I made 10 pair of SG000363 for a member, took me 35 minutes total time and that's with a few bad burns some bent pins, etc.

It's slow like Stat's - about 6-8 minutes.
It's okay though...it's not like I have a burning chip factory...lol
I just copy my own once in a while.
I just go to the bathroom or outside for a smoke or something...

I like your idea Buzz. I'm gonna put the origional boards back in on Monday or Tuesday next week, test them to make sure everything works then I'll get ahold of you for an address to send them to. If you want to keep a set that's fine with me I'm probably more worried about my sound simm than anything because it would be harder to replace on this type of game, but having a backup set of chips is a great idea. Ok, so I ended up having a bad set of boards and got them replaced through the seller. Installed new boards today in my Money Mad Martians and everything works fine except I still have no sound, legacy or otherwise. Also have no multimedia option in the menu. This is an enhanced MPU, motherboard and legacy board set. I could use it on my vision Double Diamond Run I suppose because all the sound comes from the ata card on that one, but was hoping to use it on the Martians game. Is this board set just not capable on a standard S2000 or am I overlooking something? Tried my key 17 on this and no luck either. Must need a differant key chip for these boards. Thanks for any help

Make sure the DSV SIM card is fully inserted into the slot.
You could also take it out, lay it down on the table and
rub the tabs with an pencil eraser to fully clean them.
If any of the tabs are dirty or not making good contact,
you will not get the multimedia options to come up in the options.

I could be wrong on this but you might need a
Key00031 chip to open up the options for this game?
I don't have a PSR sheet for this game so I'm not sure really.
What is the SB number? Maybe some kind soul will have a PSR sheet for you?

It's been a real long weekend and I'm not thinking real clear, but why would you need any key chip to set the sounds?

You're right Buzz, he doesn't...
I'm thinking ( somewhat clearly...lol) that his tabs on the DSV are dirty
or it's not fully inserted - I had that problem the other day
when I was fooling around with various DSV SIMM cards and found that out.

You can mistakenly shove the card in but not fully and
push it down thinking it's locked in but really isn't.
I was surprised that I didn't get the options for "enhanced" sounds to come up.
When I took the MPU back out and looked at what I did - I then knew what happened.

Hey Bunker, all this stuff worked fine with the old 502 board. I have done the cleaning thing and reseating thing already too. I had the same sound problem with the first set of enhanced boards, but there were numerous other issues with those boards also so I didn't know if the sound issue was part of that. The new set works fine except for the sound issue.

Hey Buzz, don't need key chip for sound problems, but do need it for key chip settings like printer setup and what not. Was going to use my clear 97 on it, but I got the ram error/critical info will be lost thing when I plugged the board in because I had changed the battery.

UPDATE- I bypassed the audio amp board on the possibility that the new board maybe has it's own amp. I did this first by unplugging power to the amp board and then tried plugging topbox speakers into a plug on the motherboard marked "aux audio". Seemed like an honest guess as the 4 pin molex on the speakers matched the 4 pin recepticle on the mother board. Again, no luck. Has anyone tried this upgrade before? And if so, what might I try next. If I reinstall the 502 and motherboard it works the way it always did. I'm at the point where I could live with that, but I've got $100 tied up in the new boards and would like to use them for SOMETHING.

UPDATE!! I received and installed a DSPL0002 chip in the dsp socket on my legacy adapter today and now all sounds work great! It turns out this chip works as the bridge between the sound simm and the legacy adapter. Thanks everyone for all the comments and help.

Rob  If you remove the SIMM and use only the eprom what kind of sounds do you get?
