MOONMAN

« on: March 28, 2011, 11:01:37 PM »

I have a Game King with the 3802 board and when I turned it on the other night after it was turned off for 10 days while I was on vacation, the message "MAIN BATTERY LOW" message with Please Call Attendant appeared on my screen.  As it says, I probably need to replace the main battery.  I'm assuming it's the round battery in the front left corner when pulling the board/tray out from its base?  Is there a "proper" procedure when replacing the battery?  Or do I simply pop it out and replace it?  And what size/type is it?  Can I get one from Batteries Plus or somewhere like that?

Any guidance/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

When I get this on my s2000 enhanced boards I just pop a new one in and go through the resets. If it's a 2354 battery, Mouser has them pretty cheap I've heard. On your Gameking I'm not sure if you'll need a key chip or not. You may want more info than what I've got, but get a battery coming either way

Unless someone has already installed a battery holder, you won't just be able to pop the old one out and put a new one in.  You'll need to desolder the old one, and solder in a new one.  Personally I like to install a holder and a removable battery.  I use a CR-2354 on 38/3902 boards as it has close to twice the capacity of the original and will last a few years.  You can get the battery and holder from mouser electronics.  Holder part number is 534-1027.  The battery part number is 658-CR2354.  Both were $1.67 each last time I ordered them.

It might come up with a couple errors on the VFD display, but a jackpot reset key and a couple pushes of the reset button will get you through it. They'll be "CRC" errors and turning the reset key a couple times till the VFD display tells you to press and hold the reset button for 2-3 seconds then close the door will  get you through it

Scratch Head  Game Kings don't have VFD's, nor is a 3802 board an enhanced board.  It will have a solder type battery unless someone installed a battery holder.

Yeah, guess I got distracted. I would think it's about the same deal deal though cuz in a casino there's a lot of paperwork involved with using a clear chip so they wouldn't want to make changing a battery a SUPER complicated deal. If anyones got better info, feel free to chime in here  yes

Although I will offer to buy the battery from him if he bought the wrong one based on info I provided

All is good - took my board to the local batteries plus and my man re-soldered in a new battery.  He put in a 2354.  Had to turn the jackpot key a few times and hold the reset button in a few seconds.  After that, everything seemed to come up OK.

Thanks again guys for your help!
