88 Catastrophic Failure
The MPU board has failed for an unknown
reason (if SafeRAMâ„¢ Clear
does not resolve error code, replace
MPU board).
89 Cashout to Host Error
Cashout to host fails with AFT enabled
and cashout to Host set to Hard. Ope

Ford,

We replaced the MPU board, we did a safe ram clear, and the top keeps spinning.  The bottom half of the machine works perfectly.  Any other Ideas? new Thanks.  Chuck

Did you make sure all wires going to top are plugged in?
If they are & bottom works OK then the progressive will most likely have to be reset which I can not help with.

Are there any codes that come up on top or bottom?
Did you remember to plug wire from top into front of MPU?

The saferam clear you did no the machine, was it a partial, full or complete clear? Only a complete clear will get rid of the 88 code. I am assuming this is a bally 6000 game right?

bALLYS MONTE CARLO SPINTO WIN...TROUBLE WITH THE TOP BALL WON'T QUIT SPINNING. CODE SHOWN IS 88=7 14.1, ANY SUGGESTION WILL HELP.. THANK YOY CHUCK new

Can you describe how exactly how the ball is spinning in the top box?  Is it sporadic back and forth, or is it at a slow and steady pace in the clockwise direction?

The fact that you are getting an 88 error tells me that your board, the set of chips, or backplane is the problem here (likely the board or chip set)....especially if you are getting a slow steady spin on the wheel.  A slow and steady spin tells it is in standby mode waiting for a link with the main board.  If it's sporadic then you have a bad top box wheel controller board or it has a bad or incorrect chip on that board.  If your wheel or progressively display was the problem then you would be getting a 91 error, not the 88.

I would troubleshoot this way:

First verify that you have the correct set of clear U28 and U43 chips for the game.  Second I would verify that you have the correct personality chips, U18 and U 20 for the game as well as the correct Mains U28 and U43.

Once that checks out I would proceed to make sure you have your board set up correctly.  If your using any random S6000 board, especially since you grabbed another one off the stack, chances are you got some changes to make to it.

First off, make sure the U24 chip is removed off the board....that slot should be empty for a Monte, but it should be populated for any standard S6000 game.

Then check your Dip Switch settings.  These setting below have worked for me on over 30 Monte's (assuming you want a 25 cent denom and your BV is a WBA):

DS1

1=ON
2=ON
3=ON
4=ON
5=OFF
6=ON
7=ON
8=ON

DS2

1=OFF
2=OFF
3=ON
4=OFF
5=ON
6=OFF
7=ON
8=ON

DS3

ALL ON

Now look at your jumpers:

JW1 = OFF
JW2 = RIGHT 2 PINS COVERED
JW3 = RIGHT 2 PINS COVERED
JW4 = BOTTOM 2 PINS COVERED
JW5 = LEFT 2 PINS COVERED
JW6 = RIGHT 2 PINS COVERED
JW7 = OFF
JW8 = LEFT 2 PINS COVERED
JW9 = BOTTOM 2 PINS COVERED
JW11 = RIGHT 2 PINS COVERED
JW12 = ON
JW13 = TOP 2 PINS COVERED
JW14 = TOP 2 PINS COVERED
JW15 = OFF
JW16 = RIGHT 2 PINS COVERED
JW18 = OFF
JW20 = ON

After you make the changes, do a FULL clear.  When you turn it back on with the DOOR OPEN, hopefully it will bring you to the point where you can change the date and time.  If you get the 88 error again, then you either have a bad board or a bad set of chips.

If you do get to the point where you can enter the date, then press the CHANGE button to clear out of that, go to the 11d settings, and enter the following parameters (assumes no hopper or coin):

9 = 4

2 = 4

7 = 1

56 = 0

51 = 9999

58 = 1000

78lo = 1

73 = 0

61 = 1

81 = 0

Or if you do have coin:

9 = 4

2 = 4

7 = 1

56 = 160 (or as you like)

51 = 9999

54 = 80 (or as you like)

58 = 1000

78lo = 1

73 = 0

61 = 1

81 = 1

69 = 0 (verify your coin acceptor manufacturer - this is assumes Coin Mech, Inc.)

Good Luck
