What happens to the machines when they're removed from the casinos?   I am a huge fan of " Star Trek"  and noticed that most of them were taken out of the Laughlin casinos the last time I was there. hissy fit  I saw one machine at Harrahs and another at Golden Nugget.   On previous visits, they were in at least 4 other casinos as well.   I am curious: Scratch Head does anyone know for sure what happens to them when they are removed?  These particular machines are WMS's and I suppose they have some kind of a license agreement .  Can they be purchased?
Can anyone give me the true scoop on their fate?    PM if you'd like.    Thanks : JSmith

They are licensed, but how they are licensed could determine what happens to them
If Paramount (I think they still have the Star Trek rights) allowed the machines to be sold to the original casinos that got them (and not just leased) the casino may have sold them
If they was sold they may have ended up overseas. many of WMS machines end up overseas.
if they was leased then the Star Trek specific glass, strips, and firmware might have to be smashed, destroyed.

Games like that with popular "brand name" licenses are typically destroyed and will almost never appear on the resale market.  Yes, every now and then some of those leased games somehow appear, but they're nearly impossible to get and would cost an arm and a leg.  Sorry for the bad news.  Sad

Not only that, but Star Trek has/had bonus levels that were unlocked after accumulating enough "points" and players save/saved their accounts on Wms servers so that they could continue their play history on any ST:TOS machine in any casino around the country.

Whatever difficulties one might encounter getting a WAP game such as WOF to play without the host server would be multiplied ten fold for a game like this.  ttth The odds are that if you were able to find a Star Trek machine for sale you'd be buying a boat anchor.
Of course, I'd LOVE to see one of our gurus prove me wrong. yes  Cheer Leader

Thanks for the info guys!!!    I guess my chances of owning a  "Star trek"  slot is out of the question. hissy fit     I'll just have to keep going to those casinos in order to play them.  That's all the excuse I need anyway.

Masque may release these at some point.

Masque is a casino emulator. Not as good as the real thing but still fun to play.
