I'm going to buy another S+ MPU and would like to know if I should get a 10Mhz or 16Mhz board?

Will all the 10Mhz games work on a 16Mhz board?

The games will, but you will need different SP chips, and just a note if you are sensitive to static, there is feedback noise with the 16 meg  board, but you know someone who can supply the correct SP
s if you do get the 16 Meg (The Haywire does take a different one just like the 10 meg)

Is there any advantage of one over the other?

Feedback noise would drive me nuts!!

In my experience munch, I'd say no, it doesnt....only some , but I dont know which ones.
All I know is you have to have the right SP chip for cetain boards.

In other words, I've tried all kinds of mixes and swappings and found that the "newer" chips work well in the 16MHz boards while the "older"/smaller numbered chips work well in the 10MHz boards.
But it's not always true...

It's very good to have two boards of each if you're going to fool around with them.
Also, you KNOW when it doesnt work - the reels will give off an error code...usually 41,42,or 43
There's a list somewhere   (though not complete)   that showed which boards worked with certain chips.
I'm sure someone can upload it to the "Submit a new file" section for your future reference.

Sorry blueridge, I didnt see you typing.   man, I'm slow...

Thanks for the advice - I think I am going to stick with a 10Mhz board.   Blue's feedback commend struck the fear of God into me.  And if there really isn't a big difference in the games that one can play I would want to chance a strange noise. banghead

If you use the newer chips like a 1271 (or 1274 for the Haywire) you will get the faster speed of game play and newer sound that the 16 meg board will give, the 16 meg board offers more for a slant top as you can get reel stop click, where the upright used the handle solenoid for the reel stop click, the 16 meg board is required for Barcrest Games in the S+ platform, I believe the board came form there and then if I remember MGM went to using them in all the games for faster play, or at least I remember being told that, it could have just been a sales pitch option for other stuff before the newer SP's came out, the 16 meg boards are newer and always look nicer, but at the price of the 10 mhz boards who cares, toss them like a frisbee if have a problem
