That would have been my suggestion.

How about pulling out the plunger on the door Cherry switch (simulating door closed) and see if you have power to the LED on the comparator?

I would do another RAM clear.  Bally S5500s are known to lock up like this (with strange behavior) due to memory corruption that can only be corrected with another RAM clear.

I install main chips that do not require clear chips in all my machines which makes clearing RAM a breeze.
