I'm getting no responses in the coin comparitor section.  I'll try here.  I have a Bally 5500 slot that won't coin up.  I have 4 coin optic boards and 2 coin comparitors and I never can get this thing to coin up at all.  I've tested them all.  If I put the machine in test at 3D and I run a quarter through it I immediately get a OA error.  It's like it knows a coin is there but immediately throws up the "invalid coin" error.  Both my comparitors never seem to operate correctly either.  From what I've been told as long as you block the rake on the comparitor and get a coin to the coin optics board it should work.  My coin optics board has been shimmed so only the size of  quarter fits through it.  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to get this thing to accept quarters.

FIXED!   Checked the wiring harness and compared to what others had said before.  The Comparitor does have to be there and it does have to be on to have these games credit up.  They will NOT work by simply just blocking the rake.  POWER has to be at the comparitor and lit for it to credit up.  Anyways my problem was with the wiring harness.  The harness was not stock.  The wires had the main 24 volt power going to pin #6.  I read on here 24 volt power must go to pin #4.  Voila.......it works.

Sometimes you enjoy the accomplishment of fixing more than playing.  Congrads on your success.

I too have a Bally 5500 and cannot get the coin comparitor to recognize the quarters.   I fixed the rake so that the coins fall through to the hopper, however they don't register as credits.  My husband checked the wiring harness against what you said worked for you and ours seems to be wired correctly.  My bill validator works and registers credits, and my hopper pays out as it should, just would like to play with coins as well as bills.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!  I can send photos if that would help or any other information you need to help me trouble shoot.  I was wondering if there is something I need to do on the MPU board to make it recognize the coins???  By the way, I do have the coin acceptor switch up and my optics board yellow light is on and the test switch works when I test it....

Maybe start a New Topic (same board though) and show a pic or 2 of the coin comparitor. Someone will help you out.  yes
