I bought this slot at an auction.  I got it home hooked it up and got nothing but a black screen and never ending "8".  I did a RAM clear on it and it worked fine for about 10 minutes.  Now every so often the screen will black out then reset to the blue screen with the critical error 8 message.  I follow the instructions to reset it then it works for a while again.  The longest it ran is about 4 hours.

The 8 is usually the CPU Board, most common is the processor on the end near the pull tabs, make sure it is seated good, if not and you have another board, try swapping them and see

I have had some success grounding out the processor chip in the palm of my hand. I remove the battery first ( not sure if this is necessary but I figure it can't hurt) then I remove the processor and ground it out in my hand for a few seconds. I hope this helps.

I've also gotten the critical memory error with eeproms that were too slow or had been burned enough times to loose some of their speed.  Usually only applies to XU3.

Well it seems as though all my circuit boards are working fine now but now I can't seem to get my bill acceptor to work.  I know that its not WBA-11 because the slide in connection is different.  I put in a WBA-13 in it and it winds once it connects but it won't accept any bills.  When I put in a WBA-12 in it constantly whinds.  anyone have any suggestions.

WMS 550 requires an RS-232 board for it to function correctly, you also need to make sure you have the right software for the DBV IDO03.
