 Ok, since I first joined NLG, I knew nothing about slot machines, in fact, I asked in one post if you really had to take out the board to change the reel chip! Duh! Anyway, it's amazing how much I have learned throughout the months with the help of everyone here. Thanks Again!!
 I have done just about everything you can do to an S+ with the exception of adding a progressive. Can I add one of those larger spectrum displays to an S+ machine, where the old player tracking card used to be, on the bottom of the top glass? I currently have a round top, SP1271 with the player tracking card and area that displays the information.
 What I really want to know is can this be done and where can I get the stuff? I have read some of the posts on the subject but I don't know where to buy the display from or how to even begin doing this. It will be the last modification to my S+ before I dive in any buy an S2000.  applause

First off (as you've probably read before) contact one of our sponsors listed at the top of the page. April at Lemans Slot Sales always seems to have a ton of progressive stuff. I've purchased from her before, and have nothing but great things to say. The same goes for Jim at Blue Ridge and all the rest of the folks in those links, they'll all do you right.

There are Spectrum displays for the S+, but I've never seen one. I use Mikohn stuff in my S+, and it works great.

Awesome!! Super quick response!! OhioGaming, that's a nice setup. PM me on a price for that unit. Is it really that hard to install or program? I see this unit has two light bars. Can the smaller one be taken off?

That makes two of us!! My problem is installing everything. I'm a dummy when it comes to that. I wish you could just plug in the display, put it where the old player tracking went and then set it up to display what you win if you hit the jackpot! I'm sure though it's not very hard to do, I hope!!

There is one harness connection from the unit to the 12 plug in the top box. Programming is done with the set chip through the menus on the door. Will need the SP1271 installed. Once you do it the first time it becomes easier after that.

That seems easy enough. My only concern now is: Will that display fit on the bottom of the award glass, where the player tracking bar is?

It will if you open up the bracket to the display size.

There's a whole board here just for the Mikohn progressives, located here: http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?board=26.0

As a matter of fact, that's where this thread is!  bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing Duh!

If you're interested in other progressives, click this link, which is the parent to the Mikohn board, and has all the other progressive systems you're likely to run across:

The correct way to add a pogressive is to buy glass that has the mylar cut out for the displays.

The problem with this is that it means if you already have 10 game kits you are now looking for all new top glass etc. I was too cheap to do that especially since I have both 9" and 16" top glass for all of my kits and I have about 60 of them.

I used the older CHAM1 equipment which has slightly smaller displays than the CHAMII equipment. I spent some time with a Dremil and made the necessary cuts for the player tracking board, then I got some Lexan (Plexi glass) and used automotive tinting and overlayed this on the tracking bar. It came out nice.
Unfortunately the PCB board hangs slightly longer than the display and doesn't fit. Not being one easily deterred I then took my dremil and cut a track in the reel shelf so it dropped in lower. This then was a bit too low so I took some anti-static foam and built it up.

I now have a display in each of my machines - so it can be done but getting there is not pretty. I am not sure if the ChamII display is too large.
Other people have created a small box and mounted it on top of the slot, and my favorite is to build this into a topper. I had not thought about this early on. I want to do this with my PE+ (video poker) albiet I have used a gateway to get the $$ amount on the display.

In the Mikon gear here is the basics....

Slot1, Slot2, Slot3 ... etc -------> CON1 ---- LED5/Cham1 ----> Display
                                                       --- LED4/Cham44 ----> Large Overhead Display

Slot1, Slot2, Slot3 ... etc -------> CON2 ---- ChamII   ----> Display
                                                       --- Supreme ----> Large Overhead Display

Slot1 -- ChamII+ ---> Display

The CON1 and CON2 are LINK controllers designed to link several machines together.

The CON2 can handle more levels of progressives and it can handle mystery progressives where it is set to win on a certain number of coins played etc.
The supreme displays use the Mikohn downloader software and can have different graphic sequeneces that are triggered by the CON2 such as coins falling in the background etc.

The ChamII is ONLY able to be used as a display driver in conjunction with the CON2.
The ChamII+ can be used as a standalone progressive (1 slot) and it can be set to Link mode and used as a CON2.

The CON2 and subsequent stuff is more expensive in general than the CON1 and its perifery..

If your not too sure how far down this path you want to go you could get a ChamII+ setup and then later convert it to a full blown link configuration by the addition of the CON2.

For those of you with IGT you need a CON2I (I being IGT). I gave Joey a CON2 (NON I version) - one of my ebay blunders - so those of you with WMS or Bally platforms could purchase this from Joey. All funds from this sale will go to the site hosting fund. The unit was in brand new condition.

Picture of actual display being tested.

Lower display was not programed.

The upper display is 16" x 2" and the lower is 9" x 1.5".

That sounds cool. Do they look stupid without the addition of tint/glass?
