I need help with a IGT3670 Video Poker Machine

Hello All......I just purchased a Video Poker (IGT 3670, 25 cent four of a kind bonus poker) machine at a garage sale and the monitor is not working ( at least I think it's the monitor).  I have audio, all the buttons light up, hopper works, and accepts coins, however the monitor is not working.  I can actually play, however the monitor does not turn on at all.  Can anyone help me diagnose the problem or know were I can find a manual?  Thank you for any help!!!

Shane,

We need to know if you monitor is no getting power or simply not getting a video signal.

With the unit turned on, run your finger across the screen and see if you feel power or static.
Another way to try this is to turn off all the lights in the room and see if you see a glow from the monitor.

OK.......I tried both.....I ran may hand across the screen while to power was on and there wasn't any static. I also turned off the lights while the power was on and the screen was completely black.

Ok - so we know we are dealing with a power issue.

I would start by checking all of the fuses with a multi-meter.
Looking at a fuse with your eyes is not a reliable method.

Radio Shack sells multi-meters if you don't already have one. I don't want to come aross as condesending but if your not sure how to check a fuse simply ask and someone here will jump in. There are no stupid questions.

The other thing you can do is follow the wires going from the monitor to the other components.
Make sure the slot is unplugged from the wall then follow the cables from the monitor to where it is connected.
You want to disconnect the connector. You want to examine it to see if the connector seems burnt or corroded and then plug it back in.
You then follow the wires back up to the monitor and examine and reseat there too.
It is very possible that the connector is just loose from transport.
IF the connectors do look burnt or corroded you might want to take a little pen knife and scrape the pins to clean them.

Did you get any kind of story about the machine from the people that you bought it from ? was it working there and then dead when you got it home ?

Hey Jay,

Thanks for all the help.....all the wiring and fuses look good.  The previous owners (sellers) said the machine was working fine last week.  They opened the machine to remove the coins a few days ago and after they removed the coins and closed the machine the screen never turned back on.  My dad actually has a friend who lives down the street from the sellers, and he said the machine working fine last week.  So I have confirmation from a reliable source that it was working.  The sellers are the daughters of the owner and unfortunately the mother passed a few weeks ago and that's why the machine was getting sold.  So the daughters didn't know much about the machine other then it was working last week until they took the coins out.

I was thinking that when they removed the coins they tripped something our the hopper needed a certain amount of coins in it to operate correctly, so I refilled it and the screen was still blank.  I also followed your directions in your second post everything check ok, at least from what I could see....Could it be the monitor itself?  And if so will a regular TV repair shop work on the monitor here in California? Or even be able to fix the problem? Maybe?

I would be somewhat leary of taking that machine anyplace as slots are illegal in CA.
We have plenty of members here from CA that might be a better resource to help you out.

Just continuing down the road of troubleshooting.....
We should determine if the power problem is with the power supply or with the monitor.
At the monitor end remove the cables from the monitor and using the multimeter check for A/C voltage.
While you are there see if there is a brand and model number on the montor. Centroix etc ?
Someone should have a manual if we get a part number.

I am not much of a electronics guy, but it has been my experience that about 90% of monitors that have power and are experiencing no-power symptoms either have a power supply problem or have a blown power transistor. In highschool electronics class (more years ago than I have digits to count) we used to get TVs in for repair and the power transistor was the culprit. OF course we had to go through the whole rigamarole using an osciliscope to locate this and then document all of our work, but it was pretty easy to jump to the problem and work our way back. The power transistor is usually located on the side of the flyback and is held in place by two large screws, usually silver in color. Its a simple repair with no soldering required.

I am also not sure of your IGT model. My recollection of history was Fortune I, Fortune II, PE (Players Edge), PE+, Game King
