Installing A Dual-Spectrum Display In A S+.

Well,
This has been done before but I wanted to do a pictorial of
the way I installed a Dual-Display Spectrum into an S+!

The first thing I did was turn off the main power and pulled out the
fluorescent light attached to the back wall of a 16" Topbox.
Using that 2-pin plug, I connected it to the one that came with this kit.
I then attached the ground wires to the back of the metal topbox wall.

The second photo is the spectrum being attached to the topbox floor bracket.
There's 4 screws that hold the Spectrum's power supply and logic board to the floor bracket.

Now,
there's a couple of harnesses coming up through the hole in the topbox.
The larger one is the logic board connector...those wires contain all the progressive signals.
The other smaller 4-pin square molex will be for your candle.
You'll need these later - try to route them under the floor plate we will be installing soon!

The second picture is the the floor bracket put into place.
You gotta line up the 4 holes of the bracket onto the 4 bolts
coming straight up from the floor of the topbox.
It's not easy if you have fat fingers like mine but the nuts get put
onto those bolts to secure the power supply and logic board to the topbox.
Make sure you route the big long green and red harness under
the cutout on the left hand side of the floor bracket.>>>

It's hard to do without too much light!Arghh

Remember that 2-pin plug coming off the back
wall with the grounds?
Well, this is where it gets plugged into on the
logic board's power supply box.

The second picture is me attaching one of the sliding
rails for the Spectrum Display panel.
There's two holes in these 2 brackets.
Line them up and slip on the 2 nuts finger tight....
You want to be able to move it around to make adjustments later!
All you gotta do is make sure the slits face to the front so
we can attach the panel to them later!!>> >>>

This is me attaching the sliding panel bracket to the left side wall of the topbox.

The second picture is we're trying to attach the Spectrum Dual-Display panel to the side-wall brackets.
There's 2 screws on each side of the panel with square flate plates that go on the back of the sliders.
Not easy for one guy with 2 hands....I need to be an Octopus...LOL>>>

Now's a good time to plug in the 2  Green and Red molex
connector harness to the Spectrum's Dual-Display panels.
I would have done it earlier if I had more hands but it's not hard to do.
These molex's are only 2-pins and flat on one side
of the plugs so you can't go wrong.
They only go into the displays one way.
The header for the small display is on the back right sticking straight up.
The header for the top display is right on top in the middle of the
display sticking towards the rear of the machine!

The second picture is a little shaky...LOL
Try to take a picture left handed with the flash cube sticking up and
the button's on the right side of the camera! lol
Anyways, the ribbon is a piece of cake. It has a nipple on one side of
the black connector that slides into the slit on the header.
Again, only goes in one way! You can't go wrong here!>>>

Here's the best opportunity to plug in that molex coming
out from the hole in the floor of the topbox.
It goes into the one coming out of the logic board...
It's called the logic harness.
If you can't figure out how to put this together...go home! LOL

Here's a photo of where different harnesses are running around...
I hope the little green arrows help ya!
I also wrote in Green highlight where the power goes
into the Spectrum power supply.
That one goes through the hole back all the way down
to the back of the machine's power supply.
Again, 2-pin molex's with one side flat....can't go wrong there.
They only plug in one direction!>>>

We're getting there!!!
Patience is the key to putting these things together.
Remember, you only put the sliding bolts hand tight...
now's the time to make your adjustments so the
display sits flat up against your award glass!
Once you've made your adjustments so the display
shows nicely through the windows -
tighten up the screws with a phillips screwdriver!


The second picture is with the machine's power flipped on!
All we gotta do now is get the proper SET chip for the game,
go into the options and set it up just like a mini-photon!
Ask our members for the proper PSR for your SP chip and all
the instructions should be right in there as far as going through
the setting options for an S+ dual Progressive system!>>>

Finally, I'd like to add that my Spectrum kit from Ken at Ohio Gaming
sent me also a fluorescent light display panel box that attaches to the
remaining 2-pin gray power connector.
It simply gets plugged together and the metal fluorescent panel screws
right to the top of the big bracket you've installed onto the topbox floor!

This a great kit!!!...
The cool thing about it is that it works pretty much like a mini-photon and
does NOT need any CON1's or CON2's to run it!
Everything logically is built into the board on top of the power supply.
 
If you want, you can probably run all the wires up through
the top of a 9" topbox and install the whole thing
into a special topper made for these too!
Mr.BellMan has a great topper made for this type of Dual-Display!

much adaptable for any many running on Quarters!!

You also have the option of taking apart the 2 displays and making a custom
player tracking bracket like Dpalmi's set-up on another thread!

So, there are many configurations for this and this was only one way to install it into a 16" S+!

lol Actually, the 16" S+ I installed this Spectrum in
had a Triple Jackpot kit in it.
It doesn't have a progressive 16" glass, that's why I took
a photo of the powered up Spectrum in the dark.
I plan on putting in any award glass that has a double progressive.
Any ideas on that?
If not, I'll take it all back out and make a nice progressive
sign in a well crafted display box.
I find that old cigarette shop fluorescent displays from
Marlboro and Winston's work well.

I aggree, it is a great kit and Ken was so helpful and patient getting mine setup a couple months ago. Great price too!
