I have a Belkin USB 4 port hub P5U021 that I am trying to hook up to a PC under windows 2000 that is NOT Internet ready - tower only has 2 usb ports which I have a scanner and a printer - I want to add another printer - when I hook up the USB HUB - the printer and scanner don't work.  Am I missing some driver or ?   My fallback would be to put a 4 slot USB board in.  The HUB does work on my MAC.

Does the computer recognize the Hub when you plug it in?  Look in your devices list to see if it's listed.

What you have to do is plug in the hub first, let windows see it, and then plugin all the other devices after it. Also, if it is a "self powered" hub, it may not have enough current to power all the devices plugged into it. It only gives 5v DC at 1 amp, I think.

It's 5volts .5 amps on the original USB Spec, though apple has put some 1 amp usb ports on some of their laptops.  But printers and scanners do not require USB power, my thinking is that the system is not recognizing the USB hub for some reason or another.  It's been a while since I've seen a system with only 2 USB ports, is it USB 2.0?  Although 2.0 hubs are supposed to work with 1.0, sometimes you just never know.

everything is working - i thought I posted my actions - but they are not showing - so.. I started by disconnecting the USB lines for the printer and scanner - plugged the HUB usb into empty port.  Powered up - got a message indicating hardware installed - do a restart..   After restart plugged usb for printer - tried to print - for some reason I have a printer-copy 2 version of my printer - so I changed the copy2 to my default and the printer now works - plugged the scanner in - it worked. So at power down - all is well - will see what happens when I use the PC again.
