Help! I think I've asked this before but can't find the answer. I'm trying to change my machine from 5 cents to 25 cents. The internal jumper only changes it to 50 cents or 1 dollar if I recall and I was told I needed to change a chip. Does anyone know what chip and where it's located on the MPU? Oh...and what chip will I need to get the 25 cents to appear?
thank you

Thank you. I didn't even know there was a dip switch in there. I guess I need to pull out that mpu again. I think I always have a fear of pulling out MPU's on ancient video slots since everything (including SOUND) works perfectly in this machine other than it says 5 cents...and I want it to say 25 cents.  hissy fit
Okay I'll give it a try later. Do you know if I leave the jumper settings alone?

Neon and Short:

I am new to THIS forum although I am realtively active in the Bally EM forum.  I am thinking of getting a well cared for Fortune 1 Jokers Wild.  What are your thoughts on that machine?  Currently it is a 25 cent machine however I would like to make it a 5 cent machine.  PLEASE let me know all that has to be done to make this happen.

What I see is...
1.  Change paper on middle glass that says 25 cents
2.  Change coin slot on door to 5 cent slot?
3.  Change Coin mech in door
4.  Change disc in hopper to 5 cent?
5.  Change dip switches as noted above.  BTW where are these located in the machine?

I am totally new to these machines and I need a lot of help
Where can I locate or download a manual.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much

Hi
My post, just before yours here, is asking basically the same question. I'm afraid the people that knew this stuff are no longer here so I think we're on our own. I will look on my own MPU soon as I get home. There's a spot with what looks like an IC socket but with jumpers in it. Changing those will change the denomination. I have already done this on mine. I'm trying to change it from 5 cents to 25 cents...just the reverse of what you want. BUT... changing the jumper configuration only bumped it to either a 50 cent machine, or dollar! So I'm still stuck. I have not played with my dip settings yet. I just never got around to it. I'll try and do this tonight and report back. Hope it will help you.  wave
I love my Fortune One! I paid very little for it and it just keeps working! But again, these are OLD machines. I would not pay too much for it since the Game Makers and Game Kings are getting much more affordable and don't have issues like electrolytic caps that go bad in time.

Its a shame that all of the wisdom has gone.  We have to fend for ourselves.  Reportedly, the machine that I am looking at buying is working properly 100%. Since I am a Bally EM man I dont know what and IC socket is or any of the lingo yet.  I did download the manaul for this machine.  I am getting a little afraid that I might be going into deep water if these machines are not dependable.

I don't mean to sound angry either since this is a free forum and everyone helps out for free! I do make donations from time to time to help out. In fact, it's time for one soon!
But, with that said... a LOT of people have disappeared! Maybe they've just moved on to newer stuff. I do my best to help but I even took a little break from going to NLG.
I've learned everything from people here. It may help to to just do a search here and read some old posts. I have some here somewhere...just scroll down and you can probably find them.
I'll take some more pictures of my MPU board and show you the socket. An "IC" is usually a rectangular shaped device with "legs" on each side. Some have more and some have less. Some are mounted/soldered in the PC board while others are in sockets so they can be removed, like the chips (or IC's Integrated Circuits) that control the game type and pay off odds in reel type slots.

I think that you and I are cut from the same cloth.  I help out others when I can and I contribute when I remember to do so.  I think that you are right in that people are migrating to newer games and unfortunately some are getting old and sickly.  I REALLY want to buy this poker machine and since I live in a 30 year state there is not many to chose from.  It looks like it was not abused so if all things go well I will join you in the mix in a week or so.  Thanks again for looking out for a fellow gamer.  Here is a picture of my future Video Poker

Make sure you keep upright during the move. If you have to lay it sideways, make sure to remove the hopper! I'd still check EVERYTHING for loose coins before you plug it back in. If it's in a store now, it should be fine... but sometimes they don't check these things. I'm heading home and will attempt to look up more on the denomination change.

That was worth a million bucks there.  The fear is a stray coin will cause all kinds of trouble when I power it back on right?  Have the same problem with transporting the old Bally EM's.  In my vehicle I am not sure it will fit standing up.  Time will tell.  I think that I am too afraid to mess with the denomination.  It will be a 25cent machine for the rest of its life I think.

Oops! Forgot you have EM's! I have two and hope they never break because I'm no good at repairing them other than the obvious issues...
Okay here's what I found: My MPU had no DIP switches, as I thought. I don't know if newer model Fortune 1's or later do have them?
I shot a picture of where the board is located. It pulls straight out. Make sure you are not full of static! I put my boards on antistatic sheets. The next post will show the board. At number 8, on the bottom, just look up until you see the empty socket. That is were the jumpers go. You may have some in yours. I tried jumping mine and only could change UP in denomination. CV slots knows a little about and there IS a chip (an integrated circuit or IC) that supposedly changes what the jumpers do. So, if yours has one type, the jumpers will make it 5, 50, cents, etc. Another will allow the jumpers to change to 10 cents $1.00, etc. I'm not positive but I think that's what I was told. Maybe Roz will chime in??? I hope! I still would like mine to say .25 eventually.
If you're wondering...my monitor needs repair. The background should be blue, but it's black! I kind of like it that way.

Pulling out the board carefully! Note the battery at upper left. They do die and will need replacing. Make sure it's not leaking! Next pic shows where the jumper socket is...just looks like an empty socket at upper part of row 8, just below the top chip. There are some intentional empty sockets but that's common.

Thanks for the pics.  I like your 5 cent machine and I like the black screen too.  Its a shame that we are so far away from each other could be a trade situation.  These suckers a much different inside than the EM's for sure.  I will give the battery a hard look when I go to pick up my game next week.  The seller seems to be a really nice guy and says that he found a manual for me as well.  If you need one I could have it copied for you.  I did download a copy oif something or some kind of manual, from this site earlier today.

Another question,  does the IGT have a similar coin diverter feature like the Ballys so when the hopper is full the "extra" incoming coins are routed to the till under the table?

As far as payouts lets say I just get the game home and turned it on and filled up my hopper.  If I get a win of 20 coins will the Fortune 1 pay me the 20 coins OR give me twenty credits.
If it will pay me out in coins how are credits built up?

If it gives me credits I suppose that when I finish playing I simply push cash out and the coins rain out into my tray right?

Sorry for so many questions but it seems like its just us working this thing out.  lol

I have the manual on pdf. It's out there on the internet if you need it. Mine is 111 pages long.
My hopper has a "spill point" built in. Simply put, when the level gets too high, the quarters just fall into a shoot that sends them out the bottom!
I've never set any limits in mine. It holds credits but I've never seem how many since the damn thing keeps taking my money!  rotflmao
Mine holds credits until you press the "collect winnings" button. Hope this all helps. And maybe those others will appear sometime.
Yes you are a bit far away...about as far as possible! Darn.

Here's a link to my machine in the garage! It's in my casino room now. Looks much better in person though but you can hear the goofy sounds it makes with its working sound board.

Thanks for the video.  The sounds are goofy.  I cant wait till my basement is full of those silly sounds.  The black screen is a plus.  The manual that you have is the same one that I downloaded today.  I think that I will order my stand Tuesday so that I can have everything in place for the delivery of my new baby.

It seems  that since Cali is a 25 year state, and closeness to Vegas, that you have many more people with machines, and repair experience on your coast. I even know a few experts out there. You will be just fine.

In the middle of the night with too much timne on my hands I looked at the video posted by shortrackskater again.  The belly glass has the denomination of 25 cents on it while it is currently set up as a 5 cent machine.

Good news and bad news as I see it.  1.  The fact that the glass says something that the machine is not would drive me crazy!!!  2.  Since the belly glass does say 25 cent I would be lead to believe that there is some setting, inside of that cabinet, somewhere, that can make your machine a 25 cent game.

Easiest option:  Change belly glass to generic draw poker glass with no denomination shown at all.  Problem solved!  lol

I'd like the blue back! But there is a problem with the monitor and since I can't fix them and don't want to pay a Fortune (pun intended!) to get it fixed, I just adjust the blue out and it the matches the missing color at the bottom  of the CRT.
