I have a Sigma Treasure Wheel machine, and when I power it up, the hopper starts dumping coins until the boot process completes, then it reports "Runaway Hopper 1" message.   Once it is reset, everything is fine until it is powered off/on again.    If I remove the hopper until the boot is complete, then everything seems to be fine.    Anyone know if it's a hopper issue, or PCB problem?

Verify the hopper optic is clean or the microswitch properly functions.  Make sure it is adjusted correctly.  You might try replacing the optic and or microswitch.  Might also be the CPU board and may need fixing or replacing.  If you have an extra CPU, try that.  Check that the coins are moving the lever and that the lever covers the optic or microswitch.

The optics seem to be working properly, and after initial startup, it dispenses coins accurately as it should.

Don't know if this helps, but...
I found what appears to be a hand-written service tag attached to the CPU board, which has a name, date, and the text "Hopper Runaway"   "10396" "106001230" and the words "Look at TGC"?
Don't know what TGC is?, but maybe this is a re-occuring problem with this machine?

Also "TGC" might mean "the ground connection"  Check that... Also please post photo of the front of the machine.  Please Post Pictures

This is actually a Sigma SG300 with a SG-88m MPU board...Double check CN3 connection on the MPU board...Do you have a manual on this machine?...did you check the grounding?...

I checked, removed and re-seated CN3 and all other connectors about 5-6 times to make sure they are seated properly.   I assume when you mentioned checking the ground, you are talking about from the hopper to the machine.  Hooked a jumper from the hopper, to the power Supply ground, and also to the case, and the PCB frame - No Change. Scratch Head

Sounds like either a bad MPU board componant, bad hopper optics, bad hopper controller board or bad cabling for hopper to MPU.  Do you have a spare MPU board?  That would be my first guess of the problem...How about any other parts above?...Where are you located?...If you want, I have 4 SG300 I could test your board if you want to ship it to me...Possibly fix it...

I'm going to go through each of the suspects you listed, and check everything again.  If no luck, I may take you up on your offer, as I only have the 1 sigma machine, and no spare parts no

Is the Hopper Controller the board attached to the side of the power Supply?

 I do see a couple of connections on the front panel with electrical tape on them (green wires - Hmmm)

No the board attached to the power supply is the SIB board...Did the machine ever work for you?...Also tell me the sequense of what is happening for power on to the error...The hopper should not turn on till after the reels have stopped and the BV has cycled if you have one...Can you take a short video of the machine start up and post it on youtube, then email me the link so I can see what is happening..
