My machine (Triple Bonanza) says anything over 1000 gets paid by attendant.... so we tested this out by running up to 960 credits, then playing the tokens till we went over 1000, and it paid out once we crossed the 1000 threshold.... I hit the TRIPLE TRIPLE TRIPLE  once (5000) and it just beeped waiting for the machine to be opened and closed.

My question is: can I go thru the settings and set this machine to always pay credits with no limit? Or is it a dip switch setting? I have yet to mess with the different settings.

Hey Rick-

Not quite "no limit," but you can greatly increase the limit by changing your hopper and jackpot lockup limits to 9999, depending on the SP chip in your machine.  (Of course, if you managed to get up to 10,000 credits, the hopper would start paying out for overages, just like it did when you have it up to 960 credits with the 1,000 coin limit.)

Do you have the PSR for your SP chip?  If not, what SP chip is in your machine?

I am pretty sure you need to get any existing credits off before you can change it.

Do you have Ron's great spreadsheet that simplifies the option settings?  If not, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.

Poppo's correct -- you'll need to have zero credits on the machine, so wait until your wife loses it all.  frying pan

I do not have the simplified setting sheet.... I could sure use it. My eyes rolled a few times reading the steps in the PSR

They're probably pretty similar, Rick.  I'd have both the simplified sheet and the correct PSR handy when you make your adjustments to make sure you're in the correct place.  The two should line up pretty closely, though, if not exactly.

FYI the older game chips usually allow changes to be made with credits on the machine.
IT is the newer ones that require no credits on the machine.

You press the self test button repeatedly until you see 7 in coins played (not the winner paid) window and 1000 in the credits window (1000 may show up in the winner paid) it has been a long time since I have set up a 872.

The 0 in the ones position should be flashing you can either turn the JP key to select the next position 10s, 100's, 1000's (The CHANGE button may also do it a well on the 872) and press the spin reels button to increment the value.
the value and positions wrap if you miss a value or position so you can cycle back to it.

FYI I sent you the 872 PSR

I just tried it on a SP873. It let me make changes with credits on it, but it would not save them. But it can't hurt to try.

Rickh, If you're going to set the credit/hopper limit to 9999, you might want to disconnect the cash/credit (cashout) switch. Otherwise, you might find yourself having to run several thousand coins through the hopper should you accidentally press it at the wrong time.

As an alternative, you might want to pick up an SP1271 (your game is a standard Type  0). The 1271 will let you set separate hopper, credit, and jackpot limits so you can set the credit limit to 9999 while still setting a reasonable hopper limit to prevent the above problem.
