What are your thoughts on tokens vs ikes for $ slots based on 1000 tokens

ive heard of different theories on this about shrinkage etc.

here are my thoughts

$$$$

cost $1000
pros they are cooler to have
cons shrinkage
if 10% loss of coins then $100 gone. but if wanting to cash out $900 cash in pocket and if ebayed can probably get losses back since coins going for 1.25 to 1.50 each

tokens

cost i have seen anywhere from .50 to .90 per coin, usually towards higher side for that qty.
we will say $700 on the average
pros little or no shrikage

cons not as fun as the real dollars, and resell if decide you dont want anymore is most likely 20-30% less that what you paid

in the end ikes seem to be cheaper to use

I am going with ikes

On casino floors, people take tokens home as a souvenir - they usually throw the real money back into the machine.
However for home use,  tokens are preferred - unless you're using the machine as a personal piggy bank... Tongue Out

and they dont let me forget. when i brought home the box of quarters the other day ($500) they said awesome more money for college.

when the little nieces and nephews play they wont touch my .25 token machine or the tito only machine. they only want to play the ones with real$$

right now i have

2 s2000 ST .25 coins
2 s2000 ST $1 ikes
1 GK .25 token
1 s2000 upright .25 coins
1 vision process of 1$ gold coins

1 S200 progressive with SBA 1$

the last one to convert will be nickels

You do live in a legal state where you can use real coins and currency. So no problem, just remember the golden rule, no gambling (sorry, I knew that you knew that, just kidding).

Yea, someone from NH actually got a misdemeanor conviction for having an underage slot but it is the exception rather than the rule. I believe that state phrase from NH "Common Sense for All".

The fact that, unless he already owns the Ikes, he'll have to pay a premium to buy them in the first place, hence his cost will be $1,250-$1,500 based on his own research, and not $1,000.

Personally, if I were stocking a mechanical slot or possibly even an EM, I would go for the Ikes, and if I were stocking a stepper slot, I'd get the tokens. But that's just me.

I guess I was assuming this was for 'home use' where nobody was going to 'e-bay' their winnings.

I am assuming that he has $1k in ikes, and could use them for now, and if the need to sell them comes he figures he would not lose money from his projected shrinkage since he can sell for more the face value on eBay.

Just my interpretation.

You are correct I got 1000 ikes at face value. so even if friends and family pilfer 100$ and i decided to no longer use ikes i can resell on ebay and recoup the shrinkage

Bummer bad news, I found out today after calling the federal reserve that there has been a directive issued that the in stock IKE Dollars are no longer going to be sent out. apparently the armoured car services that also stocked them have been told they cannot distribute any more and are returning them all to the federal reserve.

this is so that more people will use the smaller dollar.

my friend that works at dunbar said they had almost 100k worth at the location he works at and now they are off limits.
