What???...Where???...Huh???

OK, so a little debate here.
I have a 37ft Travel Trailer that I currently pull with a 1995 Dodge 2500 with V-10
Problem is if I'm lucky, I get 6 mpg.....not good at today's fuel prices.
Time to find something better. I am NOT looking for NEW rather something that
is a good puller but mainly gets the fuel mileage.
I've always been a Mopar Guy and my Dad (mechanic) a GM Guy and I already know
there's a lot of opinions on the subject
.....SOoooo, I posted a Poll and am looking to hear from the masses.

You can vote TWICE .....one for vehicle & one for fuel

I'm not eligible to vote. Now, if you asked me how many miles per gallon a Corvette C5 stick gets at sustained speeds of 120MPH on certain desolate desert highways, I could tell you: more than any of those trucks get at 65MPH. arrow frying pan bust gut laughing bust gut laughing

Not sure if this info will help...but would be curious to see how it compares.  I have an '07 Dodge 1500 with a HEMI and regularly load 6 machines in the bed and put 14 machines in a trailer.  Yes..I am twice the recommended weight on the trailer....but it pulls it like a tank.  So what is that about including the trailer?....let's say 3 1/2 tons of load.  Anyway I cosistently get 13.4 mpg when pulling that load on the highway.  With no load I'm about 18 mpg on the highway.

I averaged 19 mpg in my Ridgeline hauling 4+ machines back from Vegas. Lotta mountain elevation on that trip. I towed a Kia Sorento 250 miles through similar territory and got 18

I'm no expert on this, but I've always heard that diesel was the way to go for heavy loads.

And something to think about is despite the fuel costs, how much will it cost you to buy something big enough to pull that load vs just paying the extra fuel costs?

A Cummins diesel is always the best way to go if you are concerned about the longevity of your engine....like the Energizer Bunny....they don't even get broken in until you cross 100k miles on them.

Chevy 2500 with a duramax and allison transmission. Watch the rear end numbers, some made to pull, some made to drive. It will last you along time. I have seen 20 mpg pulling trailer.

I'm sure Buzz will post soon as this is right up his alley.  propeller

BTW, the Vette got about 22-23mpg at 120mph. At "legal" speeds it got around 26-27mpg and at 55mph (trip to Oregon with family) it got just over 30mpg. Not bad for a 5.7liter V8 tweaked to 420hp.

<ADD> I never hauled a US slot in it but did bring home a Pachislo (it was a gift) along with all my luggage. arrow Tongue Out

Just put a hitch receiver on this mofo and you're ready to go!  Nothing better than a $300 ride with $5000 worth of tires and rims.  Might think about putting some overload springs on her though.  Cry Laughing Silly Me! Cry Laughing
