Ok so I don't need that mode then. Looks like I need ST0036 and since that's a mode 14 chip I need SP1311. If I don't use the tournament mode and just want the higher payout will the ST0036 work with my existing SP1271?

No. If you don't want tournement mode, do as Buzz suggested. Just use your existing SP1271 and a SS6271  ( 97.42% ) reel chip. The ST chips are only for if you are using a tournement SP chip.

Some of the higher % may be hard to find. Here is the list of all of them for a 5X

But the ST0036 is 2003.313%. Much higher than the 97.42%. I think what I need is to run the ST0036 in standard mode.

That is for tournement mode. In standard mode it acts like a SS6273 (92.513%)

You are not going to get 2003% in standard mode with ANY chip.  rotflmao

So to sum it up. If you want to play this like a regular machine you need your SP1271 and one of the SS chips listed in the link above.

If you want tournament mode (and want to play as described above), then you need a tournament SP chip AND a STxxxx chip. But in standard mode, it will not pay any higher than the equivelent SS chip listed. So a ST0036 acts just like a SS6273 (92.513%) in standard play mode.

Ok thanks for clearing it up. I think i still want t-mode so I will need both chips. What is a good price for a used IGT I series Cleopatra? I've been wanting to sell my S+ and if I can find a good deal get an I series. I've seen them online for about $1500 but have no idea how much that price is inflated.

Might try contacting some of the vendors listed at the top of the page here.

Well that sort of throws a monkey wrench into the whole thread. If you're not going to keep your S+, the entire tournament question is moot.

As everyone has said, for obvious reasons, you'll never find a regular game chip for ANY slot machine of any brand or age that pays out more than 100%, since the casinos would lose money.

If you keep your S+ and still want to use tournament mode, remember that only a few games were designed with this option. You can't just convert any S+ theme to a tournament game.

Here are all of the 3cm Five Times Pay tournament chips. You'll still need an SP1311 to run any of them. Notice that the highest-paying regular game is one of the low-paying tournament chips (at just under 1000%). You'll have to decide which combination would make you happiest.

Prog#'s     Max%      Hit Freq     SS Equivalent     SS Eqiv %    Paytable    Game        Multiplier
ST0031     999.236   29.185      SS6272             95.102%     242B         5x Pay       3CM
ST0032     999.236   29.185      SS6274             90.045%     242B         5x Pay       3CM
ST0036   2003.313   45.177      SS6273             92.513%     242B         5x Pay       3CM
ST0060   2550.240   37.126      SS6274             90.045%     242B         5x Pay       3CM

The SP chip, or game chip, contains the program that actually runs the machine. The SS (or ST) chip, or reel chip, contains the data for the specific theme (the reel strip data, how many coins, the payouts, nudge info, etc.)

In the case of tourney chips, the ST data chip actually has two sets of virtual stop tables in it: one for the regular game and one for the tourney. The paytable is the same for both.

SP chips that support tournament mode (14) have programming that runs the tournament and the setup options for it. Other SP chips simply don't have the program.
