A frend of mine called me today with a coin out jam on a triple stars machine I told him to take the hopper out of another machine to cash it out then we can set to hand pay until he could get the hopper fixed. So we solved the problem with the triple stars machine but now the  machine he took the hopper from a top dollar says dot matrix display communication falure and it seems that the whole top unit is tottally dead no lights or display. At first I thought he just unplugged something so I asked him to check for any unpluged or loose wireing he sats he can't find anything. Unfortunatly I dont have any s2000 barcrest machines right now to try to find exactly wich plugs are for the power and communications to the top box if anyone can tell me it would be greatly appreciated. also what component might have failed could a bad i/o card or power supply cause this problem?

for him just to take the hopper out, would not cuase that problem of the top box lighting up....... i have a top dollar and i pulled the hopper out and nothing happened... he needs to check the following,
1- power supply, make sure its all the way snapped in
2- the little board behind the led lights on the top box, make sure its  plugged in.
3-mpu board, swap it out.... see if it makes a difference

thats pretty wierd for his top box to go out......it could be mpu board...... i had a bad mpu board that all of a sudden made my backlites just flash and thats it with nothing on my vfd...... i swapped out the board and now my machine works like a charm.....

Well we tryed everything we could over the phone but still no luck. So I went ahead and went over there and It definatly is the top display I have another display thats for a different game and it turns on just fine so I took both displays apart and swaped the daughter boards inside and the wrong display still worked but the top dollar display doesn't can that board be flashed or do I need a new board or display.

You should be able to just move over the little removable software chip from the Top Dollar to the board / display that is working.  Look at the display controller board for a small removable chip...it's a little smaller than your thumb nail.

we have a temple of treasure, if there is a tilt on the machine the top box goes dark. this is normal. a month or so ago we had the dot matrix error and indeed it had to be replaced.

When I'm wrong I admit.  I did a little more research on this today and learned that what someone told me about moving the chip over working...in fact it does not.  The board has to be flashed.  So basically you have to find a display that has been flashed with you game title.  Sorry for the confusion and hope you find a replacement.

Actually I'm looking for one of those, but he is looking for the display in the top box.
