I have a friend who has an S (not S+) - had a board problem - changed the battery - when he restarted - reels would spin backwards - and no DISPLAY - sent him a replacement board along with the display board.  Reels spin properly - but the DISPLAY is still dead. He says he has check the 4/5 wires from the display back to the CPU board - and everything seems to have continuity.   (has tried 3/4 display boards) all same result.

Did he check the pins in the sockets on the 'S' circuit board to see if any of them are bent ? The first time I changed out a 'S' circuit board I had a similar experience and that was the problem. You have to be a lot more gentle when changing the 'S' circuit board when compared to the 'S+'.

                                                                                                               Pin 1 ddo  to pin 26 J4
                                                                                                               Pin 2  dclk  to Pin30  J4
