So, Just got my 5 reel to 3 reel conversion finished...I keep getting a reel 1 tilt....here's the run down:

Game boots, reel spin and machine locks up. On VFD "Reel 1 Tilt" with the candles flashing.  CaptainHappy Worried

I swapped reel 1 with reel 2, reel 3, etc,. but continue getting reel 1 tilt, the shelf is screwed in place and the reels/strips aren't making contact with anything inside the cabinet.  hissy fit
I use the door latch method to clear the reel 1 tilt, however as soon as it clears the VFD immediately says "reel 1 tilt" before a game can even be played...  hissy fit hissy fit
I made sure the reels and io cards were properly seated (just in case) but nothing....  hissy fit hissy fit hissy fit

This machine experiences a continues reel 1 tilt and nothing I've tried has worked....

Could the reel harness be bad? could the reels be bad? Any suggestions are welcomed...I'm about to take the machine to the range and...uh..."fix it"  stir the pot / get cooking

Make sure reels are not rubbing against anything: Glass, Displays, Brackets, Reel Optics
Make sure that reels are fully seated on the motor shafts

Did you change the backlight control board for the reels when you converted? Also, there is, I believe, a two pin plug that hangs by the motherboard that needs to be jumpered for three reel operation. I'm a long ways from home and can't look to tell you wire colors right now. Maybe someone will jump in with that info

I never changed the backlight control board, all I did was buy a set of 3 reels (non back-lit) and the shelf/harness...Where is the backlight control board located???

No, I never jumpered anything except the cc plug for coinless use. Any info on those wires would be great!!

Thanks!

I know if you do a search under S2000 five reel conversion you'll find a referance to this particular plug

OK, Thanks I found a thread that shows how to do this for a 3 reel to 5 reel conversion (opposite what I'm doing, but worth a try).

So, If the machine has a 5 reel controller do I need a 3 reel controller?? Would that cause a tilt like this (wrong controller board OR no jumper)???

Thanks

I've had a bad controller screw up a game and you should really have the right board in, but I'm betting on the jumper. Like I said, I'm a long way from home and can't check my notes right now, but you're on the right track with that 3 reel to 5 reel conversion thread. Same thing only backwards

I made a u-shaped jumper from wire, installed it...powered the game on and I'm still getting reel 1 tilt.

I believe the harness is for the reels is installed correctly as the reels spin from left to right on startup and the reels appear to spin just fine, nothing noticeable that I could see causing a tilt..

The fight continues lol
