Your setup on old machines does not control the type of bill. Its simply enable or disable the validator. As far as the machine excepting new bills, that would be on your validator. This is why validator companies come out w/ new update to versions. Maybe their is a problem with the ink, paper, width, exct. As long as you have your validator updated to the latest and greatest version you should be good. Now, unless you are running old validators, for example DBV or WBA both made by JCM. They have stopped supporting the firmware on these units trying to force you to buy a newer model like the UBA or the IVIZON. Withe the newer model validator you will have full firmware support and be able to download new  current templates and future templates. For instance you will be able to download the new $100 bill template.

If you post a picture of your machine we can tell you for sure what kind it is, but Crowsen's diagnosis is correct in that it's the validator that controls what kind of bills are accepted.

Based on the year of your machine I'm going to guess you have an IGT Player's Edge Plus ("PE+") -- likely a DBV-200 head in there, which can only be updated so far (it won't take the new purple numbered $5s, for example).  There's plenty of discussion in the DBV-200 section, as well as the PE+ and S+ categories about getting newer bills accepted.  The short version is that you can only upgrade the software in the DBV-200 so far, as JCM discontinued support for them a while ago.

Good morning!

The DBV-45 is an older model.  In the Forum, "JCM DBV-45, DBV-145, and DBV-200 Bill Validators", you'll find lots of information about the DBV-45.

A lot of folks have upgraded to DBV-200, but as Knaql and others mentioned above, even the DBV-200 can only upgrade to a certain point.  While the DBV-200 can read newer bills than the DBV-45, it still can't read all the new bills (for example, can't read the colored $5's as Knaql mentions above).

Here's a direct link to that forum topic.
