i have an s2000 that did not come with backlit reels but i purchased some as well as the hardware (new reel wiring harness and driver board) to get them to light up. installed it all with a sizzling 7's game with backlit strips but the lights on the reels still don't turn on. any suggestions? do i need to key chip it and change a setting somewhere or am i still missing some piece of hardware i need? thanks!  Help

After installation, you need to perform an AutoConfigure on your devices/machine. I can't remember off hand what menu, but it's 4.3, I think. I don't think you need a key chip though.

Edit: it's menu 4.3

i just ran through the auto config (it's 4.3 like you thought) but it didn't change anything. there is also a reel lamps test which, when running, doesn't light the lamps either.

Do you have power plugged into the back light control board and the harness from it to the cabinet IO card plugged in?

i'm not sure. i have two cables plugged into the driver board - one from the small board that slides into a space attached to the cpu cage and the one going to the reels, of course. but there are two more open connectors on the driver board and i don't see any cables in my machine that look like those connectors. i have attached a picture.

Yes, you are missing the power plug.  That is exactly why the lights are not working - no power.  There is no setup or options required for backlight reels.  There should be 3 plugs plugged into the board.  The power plug is the 6 wire connector in the upper left in your picture.  You should have a existing power connector available somewhere inside the machine, although I did have an early S2000 that this connector was missing.

i found it! it was cable tied behind the reels so once i took them out i was able to find it, cut the cable tie and plug it in. voila - the reel lights came on in the reel light test and the game now works properly. thanks everyone! you're the best!  Hail

Glad you found it! On machines with no BL reels, the little plug gets hidden in among the other harnesses.

Good job!
