Is it worth persuing

I looked at an IGT S-2000? Red White and Blue slot machine. I have attached a picture. Upon inspection, I found that the machine is working (after getting a quarter from them to put into the comparitor). The bill validator is not working and does not have power. There is a slot for a ticket printer but that is missing. They are asking $400 for the machine. Is it worth what they are asking?

I think the answer is, "is it worth it to you?"  Prices vary by state and area.  In Vegas, they're $300 to $600 unless you have connections.  In other states, I've seen them at $800 or more.

I personally like the gold packages, but it looks like it might be worn down to chrome in some places?  When they're like that, then I prefer the shiny chrome over worn-out gold.  In terms of investment, people do like both coins and bills, so you're most likely looking at fixing/replacing the BV at some point.  Tickets are optional and start to get into more money if you want a ticket printer and TITO device.  For $400, I think the BV should be working imho.

Here's the best part. Now that the machine can take quarters and is working, they have changed their ad to read that the machine is working perfectly and they are now charging $500 instead of $400.

You could get a fully working 9"machine with a year warranty for 500 in Ohio. (without coin handling)

I was trying to trade with them since it is a pawn shop selling the slot but they did not want what I had and then raised the price $100

That's sad really. You were just trying to help them out and they took advantage of it. Knowledge is power, I guess...its hard to keep your mouth shut sometimes (hey, look whos talking, lol!). Personally, I would have sold it to you, with just realizing you knew that and I didnt, then felt like a dumbass and kicked myself afterwards for not doing the research and figuring that out myself. Might be a little mental note the next time they have anything you want for sale!

I'd look at it one more time and disconnect the harness from behind the coin comparitor, then offer them $300 cash firm.  If they don't accept, the machine will not longer take coins anyway, and they'll never find the disconnected harness.  Ha ha!  Or, with the machine off, every so slightly pull the IO card out.  <evil grin>

I've gotta admit, I'm having fun thinking about all the things you could do to the machine without damaging it.  Take the cash box out just enough to register an error, unplug the meters, remove the EEPROM, unplug the coin comparitor from the motherboard, pull one of the reels out, etc.  ha ha ha ha ... teach them not to screw you over.

While all of those suggestions do sound interesting, they are over an hour away from me and based on what they did, they aren't worth dealing with anyway.
