17" game king 3902 cpu,  turned on power got coin jam/meters disconnected message on screen,   obviously not pulling these boards when power on, however wondering what is causing this? or are the i/o's just the weak link on a gk?  here are pics,  i recently replaced the power supply, but that seems to work fine. what chips or parts on the board go bad or is something else in the machine causing them to die,  surface mount chips ugh!!!,  has anyone made repairs to the i/o with success? what are the chip numbers or locations of the most likely culprit(s)  thanx.

The IO boards are the usual culprits for these errors. No reason as to why they go bad other than they seem to be especially sensitive to static electricity and failure due to not being seated properly. Not sure that anyone has had much success repairing them as replacement costs are negligible.

We have one right now in the gameroom that has been up and running for months, when a month or two ago, same thing....Coin Jam (Coin Out Jam, I believe), on a Coinless machine...ok, I/O card. Swapped...nothing. Checked the battery for giggles and it was 2.78, so we replaced it (as we've had wacky things start in S2s when battery starts to get to 2.8)..still nothing.

Come to think of it, I think we only changed the door I/O. Maybe we'll change out the others (isnt there 3 total in a GK, I can't remember) and see where we get?

i worked on an older gk (where the i/o boards sat above the cpu, the pan they sat in took up as much space as the cpu) it was displaying the coin/meter message. i had to replace both boards to clear the message, wondering how both of them went bad at the same time...
-sounds like a chip or maybe two that quit a after a surge or time, nothing ever looks burnt, cracked, cold or even warm.

are the two i/o cards in the s-2000 reel slot interchangeable with the video game king? (the smaller boards, one fits in the door the other fits across from it in the machine) -they look identical, however looking alike doesn't always mean they will work?

Only compatible if the part numbers on the boards themselves match. Don't go by the sticker on the metal tray they're attached to
