i have a bally flaming slot machine, 3 coin reel.  i purchased a clear chip and put it in the game chip location.  after power on i got an error 83F.  i put the game chip back
in and still get the 83F error.  did i buy the wrong clear chip?  did i screw up the ram?  how do i determine the model of my machine?  any help will be appreciated.

What model or year is this.  Bally uses 2 SafeRam Clear chips which go into the main chip sockets.  If it's an S5500 or S6000, then press and hold the test and pseudo coin buttons when you turn it on with the clear chips installed.  What shows on the display while you do this?

Thanks,
Wayne

The chip you purchased is for an IGT S+ machine, which is a completely different manufacturer and model of machine.

I think you should get a manual so you know how to clear & how to setup after you clear.

If as you say you have a Bally 5500, please post the numbers on the eproms located at U3, U4, u12, and U15, note they will all have the same number. If by chance you have a set with the number 920000 you will not need a set of clear chips. Back when I was messing around with Bally 5500 I would change those (4) mains to the 920000 just to stay away from clear chips.
