All,

I just saw the photo of the lady who won the 33M Megabucks jackpot and one thing finally got me thinking.  So does EVERY major Casino have a closet full of novelty Slot branded checks, or does someone with a really big van with a on-call service get the call at 2am to drive over a Check.

Kinda odd dont you think???  Makes you wonder if we should be following around the IGT/Bally/WMS vans around town.

your thoughts...

Most of them use the same generic check but they have a static cling of the game types that they stick up in the corner

WHAT?!! SAY IT ISN'T SO!!!  hissy fit hissy fit  You mean that these people win a once-in-a lifetime jackpot and all they get is a picture of the huge check on a lousy tee shirt?!  frying pan bust gut laughing bust gut laughing  If I were ever lucky enough to win that large of a jackpot I'd want to take the big check home as a souvenir, not see them peel off the sticker and wipe off the amount twenty-eight seconds after the photo-op and drag it off to the broom closet.  ttth

Heres the Pix...

You can kinda see the signature line looks like it had "Megabucks" placed over it....and whats the deal with all those numbers in the top right corner.

It does look thick....look at hows shes holding it.

How come you never see the machine with the symbols lined up?  I think I would want people looking at the photo to see that it does happen and if they come to my casino to be able to find that machine to play it.

If each of the casinos get a big generic check...I wonder if its an item you can order through IGT???

"Hello customer service....yeah I need to re-order one of those huge check thingys..."  (I wonder if they have the clingys for the Monster pays...that would be cool to have).

I know a lady that hit 1.1 M on a Wheel of Fortune, she kept the large check.  She said it took over a hour of them checking out the machine before declaring it a winner. She took the option of full payment instead of 20 years of payments.  that paid her half of the 1.1 then IRS took $280.000 of the money she did get.  Invested most of it in the stock market and it took a dump.  I gave that woman a S+ round top  Double Disire, (now isn't that a kinky sounding theme)  I am going to get in trouble if I keep going but Double Disire sounds kinky to me Buzz

Actually, they gave her 9 extra dollars. Progressive jackpots must be rounded up to the next whole credit value of the machine, so they should have paid her $33,000,554.00.  Maybe it was to help defray the cost of tipping them for paying her the money they owed her. arrow

But to be fair, the site's designers should have put code in place to display a "friendly" message in place of the detailed error log and saved the log behind the scenes for later analysis. Judging from the poor quality of the page design on the site, I'd say that they didn't know how to do it or even that is ought to have been done.

Given that the market has lost about 50% of the average Jane's investment: $1.1M / 2 = $550K - $280K = $270K * 0.5 = $135K. .. Ouch!  no Help  I'll bet that right about now she's wishing that she could take that large check to the bank and negotiate it. Tongue Out   .. or that she had taken the 20 annuity payments of $55K. She'd probably have been able to keep $40-45K of that each year after taxes with proper deductions. So now she has three years worth of payments instead of 20.

Canadians don't have to pay taxes on winnings.
We can fill out some forms and claim back a good portion of what is withheld by the W2G.
I don't know what rules the casino has regarding WHO pulled the handle or did the drop but if I was the winner I would be finding the nearest Canadian and working out a deal.
I would offer up my services but as I carry a green card I am equally screwed.
