Optics Optics Optics

I'm not experiencing any issues that are related to optics, but it seems like the optics that are pointed out in the forum are:

Door optics
Hopper optics
Coin mech/comparitor optics

Would it be possible to get photos or locations where these are at?  I'd like to clean mine with the ol Q-tip and water, or at least check them.

Door Optics - One mounted on cabinet about 2" above reel shelf, one mounted on the door latch about even with the player display
Coin in Optics - The circuit boards  just below the coin comparator May have a black cover over the circuit board. Three sets of them on the circuit boards
Hopper Optics - Near the top of the Coin Ramp that the coins roll down as they come out of the hopper. This is how the machine counts the coins as they are paid out

There are also reel optics sir...
These are located in the back of each reel unit that sense cutouts on one of the reel baskets.

Hopper optics are only sometimes used.
Often the sensor that actually counts the coin going out is a roller connected via a lever to a small switch.
If there are indeed optics, then its position is right over the knife.

Door optics are usually placed right on the edges of the door and the cabinet.
The cabinet side optic is called reciever optics and would be positioned right on the edge of the cabinet near the latch about the reel tray height.
The door optic is called the emitter optic and is on the left inside of the door right next to the left edge of the reel glass.

The coin-in optics are located under the coin comparitor and are really two small boards sandwiched so that there are 3 optics are facing each other to "See" the coins fall down through/between them.
These are also called "ABC" optics.
Again, the three optics inside on the card are reciever optics while the other board contains a set of 3 emitter optics.

Finally, there are also Bill Acceptor optics as well.
You need to down load for the "Submit File" area the correct manual for your specific DBV in order to maintain your DBV correctly...
Never, ever use alcohol-based products when cleaning the plastics or glass that cover the optics themselves or you will only make the covering "cloudy" or worse and you'll end up having more problems than before.

Here's some pictures of the reel optics...
the first one is a view of it sandwiching the basket cut-outs...
( See part of the word "Mexico" on it?  )


The second picture is from behind the reel next to the stepper motor...
There's one screw that holds it in there....it's not really adjustable at all...

Here are the coin-in optics....
The first picture shows you where the boards are located under the coin comparitor....
Like Foster said earlier, there may be a black plastic cover over them....
You have the lift out the coin comparitor the pull upwards
on the black cover to remove it in order to expose the boards.

The second picture is the boards removed from their holders and placed out on the bench...
Circled in green are both sets of "ABC" optics.
The 3 receivers are on the left board and the 3 emitters are on the right board.
It's from an old burned out coin-in optic boards set
where I stole the black plastic reciever optic from -
to fabricate a door cabinet-side receiver optic in the above picture.>>>

If you've got a bill validator you'll have several more in the head and transport, with different locations depending on which model you have.

I'm working on a S+ and I'm having trouble with the door optics. I can't get it to reset. I changed  them out and it would reset but then go back to the same way. It's like I can't get the machine to reset. . I even changed out the mother board and back board. Any other suggestions I could trace down..Thanks for reading..Is there any other optics on the machine that would cause this?

Are you sure you're having an optics issue?  What do you mean when you say that you can't "get the machine to reset"?  I also don't know what you mean by, "it would reset but then go back to the same way."

To be clear on terminology, the motherboard is the fixed board that typically is not removed from the machine.  The MPU board is the removable board where the SP and SS chips plug in.  The MPU board plugs into the motherboard in the machine.

You may want to start another thread about your machine issues, or if you're sure it's an optics issue then continue here and please explain exactly what the issue is you're encountering and what the symptoms are (candle status, LED display, etc.).  We'll get you the help you need to get your machine back up and running.
