HI!

The machine needed a safe ram clear... It was done properly with the chip...I think, apart from the fact that the BA does not work any more.

When I power the machine on, comes the bong and then comes CRITICAL memory 10 on the screen plus a lot of numbers on top of the screen...

Any expert might give me a clue to fix that problem.

I hope this machine will not have to be considered as "decoration only".

Thanks.

It's funny how the bulletin does not actually tell you what to do to fix the problem. frying pan
Should you pull it out and re-seat it or
take a hammer and
beat it down in there?  bust gut laughing

Is there a way to get into the settings and check your memory?
Maybe a memory chip is bad?
Did you swap it with a known good one?
Maybe the memory is too small?
Try the game in another known good machine?
Can we see pictures of it?

 Thanks for the answer.

I will go and take pics right now and I post them asap.

I have 2 other working WMS but can I fry a working board if I put it in this machine? I'd better be taking pics instead of asking questions... Scratch Head

I'll be right back.

I'd try the problem board in a good machine first.
make sure the numbers and connections are the same on both boards.
I'm thinking that something is corrupt on the memory and it may need to be cleared.
Obviously the safe ram clear you performed earlier wasn't "safe".

 Back again...

Here's a pic of my board (attached).

First I had problems to get something on the screen, "8" was constant on the board, I eventually managed to clear it by moving a little bit the board.

I performed the ram clear again and that time I changed the denomination just to see what could happen, so in the menu I selected COIN COMPARITOR then Europe then 0.25 cents then I was given the choice between two kinds of tokens...I selected the first one. I confirmed my choice and the ram clear was done.

Power off...I swapped the eproms... Power on...  CRITICAL FAILURE 8 that time... ( see pic attached)  I did the safe ram clear once again... Power off/ on and I got  " TILT" "MEMORY CLEARED" ( see pic)
The thing was how to get rid of that message... I pressed the reset button on the board, I could hear the bong but it came back... After 3 or 4 attempts then it actually cleard and the game appeard on the screen... Miracle? I suppose not, there must be an explanation.

I should say the machine is now semi working because the BA does not show any sign of life... Any clue to reactivate it?

One last thing, when I was on the menu to perform the ram clear, I could read " BONU OFF", does that mean the bonus will not appear  during the game?

Something's happening when you're performing ram clears...
we need someone in here with better detailed instructions to perform a safe ram clear so your
machine can get back on track...
be patient, I'm sure we'll get somebody in here with some answers some! yes

I would try the MPU board of that machine on a working cabinet to make sure it's not the backplane that's causing the problems.  You will need to clear ram on the other cabinet with that board in order to test it.  You cannot mess up your cabinet with a faulty MPU board.

The only time I've ever gotten the memory error 10 was when my xu3 chip was corrupt.  Do you have an eprom reader you can read all chips and compared to the checksum printed on the chip?

If you don't have a WBS-2x BV using the Europe coin setting probably won't let the BV activate

Do you have a denom set chip as opposed to a ram clear chip, you might find that using this denom set chip will clear the critical error, also check the XU3 is seated correctly and also make sure batt is 3.6v.

I am attaching some info I put together a while back that might help you in the future with other errors you might encounter with this monster.

Cheers

To light up the meters and read them without opening up the machine.  At least that's what I was told by a tech.
