I Don't drive agressively, just northeasterly

« on: February 20, 2010, 04:52:43 PM »

Hi,
I want to upgrade my S2000 from standard reels to backlit ones. In looking at my
machine, it appears that I already have a backlit controller in the top right
corner of my lower cabinet. (the cover is p/n 68889900)

Am I right that this is the backlit controller, or is there a "standard reel" controller
which would also use this cover?

On the controller, The top 2 leftmost connectors have harness
connections, as well as the bottom connector. The top right connector on
the controller is empty. So I'm thinking
I already have backlit harnesses to my reels.Does this
sound right?

Thanks,
     Laura

You are correct.  You have the bick-lit board already in machine.  You will need the back-lit reels,i/o cable from cabinet i/o to back-lit board and the proper reel harness-The reel harness will a lot of pins in each connector as a non-back-lit harness has less.  Some of the vendors here at times sell them in a kit.  B.

Also as a note if you thought you already had the correct reel harness see if it has a pig-tail harness coming from it and connecting into the back-lit board-easiest way to tell without me posting the exact part numbers.  B.

Yes, the reel harness has all the connectors where the reels connect, and a pigtail going into the top
middle connector of the controller. The bottom connector goes to the comm board, and the
top left connector appears to go to the power supply. Does this sound complete?

Posting pictures of the controller would help determine if it complete.
If it is, then all you need to get is a set of back lit reels

Unfortunately, my only digital camera went belly up a couple of weeks ago.
but on a good note, I got it for free, and hated it with a passion  yes

The question I have left is if there is supposed to be a cable in the
upper right connector of the backlit controller? Hopefully this
is just an unused connector.

Chk on the side of your processor where your cabinet i/o card/board is at.  It should have a harness that plugs into the FRONT of it and runs to the back-lit controller board.  Sounds like you need that harness and the back-lit reels.  Assuming that the back-lit controll board in your game is good.  B.

depending on what back-lit controller board you have all sockets will not be used.  The part number you posted was just for the metal frame for contoller,  Not the board itself.  There are some newer contollers that are back-wards compatable and will drive 5-reel,4-reel,3-reel,3+1 bonus etc. and can drive led or light bulbs.  You probably have the standard one based on your description. Strange that all these componets were left in your game and it's not got back-lit reels in it or i/o cable/harness.  B.

Yes there is the only one not used on mine is the one on left edge, about halfway down,
But look near the controller it could just be unplugged its not long enough to be any place else since it comes off the right end of the reel harness.
Also pull a reel and look at the connectorsin the machine
If it is a back lit reel harness, every position of the connector is used. No holes or missing pins

When I originally made this post I had my Controller disconnected,
The theme in my machine did not have back lit strips so I had it disconnected.
The only connector that is empty is the far top right one.

It had the pig-tail running out of the reel harness--It is a back-lit harness.

Thanks everyone, it looks like I should be all set. Now all I need to do is find
a set of reels, and a game kit that supports them  yes
