I have an aristocrat nickel machine that i did get working. Now when I turn it on it just seems to start to cycle and stops. The first reel starts to lock and then the reels stop like it short cycled. It seems like it is losing the voltage go through the test mode, any suggestions?

Hay there Bikerman,

What model is the machine?  And is Video or Reel slot.  Can you post a photo?

I see you have posted quite a few times about a 1981 machine.  You replaced the battery, it was working then it stopped, the voltage measured good, the reels turn then stop, and you have several different motherboards.  Are all these comments about this one machines you have pictured here?

OK then Bikermen, what was the last thing you were doing before it malfunctioned?  From my own experience the more you play on the inside of a slot machine the more likely you are to "release the gremlins" (aka- mess it up).  Also, I don't know yet if I am familiar with this model.  Can you post a photo of the insides, top & bottom.

It was working fine, and then stopped taking nickles. I truned it off and on a few times and it would work again for a few days.

Nice detailed photos Bikeman.  This machines of yours is a bit different than mine but even so lets take a look.

First double check all your large D connectors, especially the CPU box and any others you have touched.  Make sure they are actually on and locked, not just pushed on.  You can tell when you gently tug on the connector it shouldn't come off.  Sometimes they look like they are on but aren't.

Question:  When you turn on the power switch, dose the real mechanism cycle through with the usual clunk clunk noises?  And do you have anything displayed in the LED window?

i have checked all the connections, it starts to turn the reels and stopps after about 3 seconds. I checked the voltage and it is 24 volts till it starts the cycle of the reels then it starts to fade away to 0 volts. I checked the power supply and the 24 volts is still there just not at the reels. The tilt ligfht comes on when the switch is turned on

OK then Bikerman if your sure it not a simple fix than you need figure out if its a bad triac in the power supply, a bad motor in the reel mechanism, or just a bunch of old gooey grease inside the drive gears.

Try this:
Swap power supplies.  But most people dont have an extra one laying around.  You could just replace triac TR-1 and hope for the best.

Remove the reel assembly and apply 24VAC straight to the drive motor while monitoring the current draw on an ampmeter.  Everything should turn freely with very little current draw.  If not you need to remove all the gears, clean & lube the shafts, not just the teeth and get it turning freely by hand.

If everything was turning freely by hand but the motor wont turn things-replace the motor.

Give it a try & let me know.

Mark

Hey Mark I will try the triac. When I pulled the reel assy out, I checked the voltage at the plug in the back for the 24vac. if I put my meter on the two leads feeding the motor assy. the 24v was there but for only about 3 sec. I will get back to you in a couple of days about what I find out.

Thanks chuck
