I took the player tracking and some other stuff out of my Bucks Ahoy reel touch. One of the items I took out is  a Bally VF Display Controller part # 305304 that scrolls  a "Welcome to the Showboat......" message.  I was wondering if there is a way to change this message to something more to my liking.

There is a removable chip which is where I guess the message is stored but I really do not know. The chip has  BALLYSYS 1998 and 288751 V01 4701 on the label

Is reprogramming the message as simple as writing a new message to the chip ? What hardware/software would be needed ?

Thanks

Yes you can create your own custom message, but you don't change the display chip.  You should have a Mastercom 220/250 controller for that display.  Inside of it is a either a 1Mb or 4Mb flash memory chip that you can read/write to using most EPROM programmers.  Make sure that you make a backup of the original file before you make any changes.  Further details can be found in this thread:
