S-Slot; Halfway working now - Bad eprom? Source for replacement?

OK. I have an old S-Slot, current game setup is 2cm Super Joker. I also have some additional kits that I picked up years ago.

Machine has been sitting for about 6 years. Tried to power it up a month or so back, no go - random flickering on the LED display. Tried a few other reel eproms and another motherboard, no go. Batteries were dead on both boards.

Replaced the battery today, reinstalled, powered it up. No display on LED. Changed eprom to a different game, works. Tried two other chips I had handy, same thing, no display at all. Installed the chip that did work, played it, everything worked fine. Working chip is an RS3037, Dbl Jackpot. Long story short, the reel strips I have for this chip are not correct - two are, the third one isn't right.

I like the Super Joker game. I have glass (and non-working chips) for both 2cm and 3cm. Chips I have are an RS3406 (2cm), which was what I used to play. Again, with this chip in the board I can't even get the LED display to fire up. Same with the 3cm chip, which is an RS3413.

I do NOT have an eprom reader yet, to check chips, simply because I only have a couple of machines. These chips also have the yellow labels on them, meaning they are S-slot chips.

Is there a source for these older chips? Should I get an eprom reader, to verify the chip contents? What info can those of you that may have worked on these older S-slots tell me? How often do these chips go "bad"? If I did get a "reader", and since I do have the original chips, should I even ask about software or "copies" to fix a bad chip?

Nope, I won't ask or "prom beg", I think I "understand". But I also figured that, like most software/dvd's/music/etc., if you have already purchased the product, it is typically legal to have a backup in the event of a problem or accidental erasure.

Yes, once you own a legal chip you can have the back-up of it and use it in the event of corruption or loss. But you must surrender the OEM and copies in a transfer of ownership. If you give away (or sell) a copy and you still have the OEM that is a copyright infringement and against the law. that is why you should and can not ask for cpoies or files on this forum. They could be sued or shut down if they allowed the distribution or trading of copy righted material.
