Whats the Ni-Cad battery do and why remove it???

If you leave the big GREEN BATTERY in there,
it will deteriorate and begin to leak acid onto the board and eat wire traces
and pretty much completely destroy your board.
Still want to leave it in?

There are few threads on S2000 nicad batteries, but the bottom line is get rid of it before it starts leaking and damages your MPU board.  There are several circuit traces in the vicinity of the battery that are part the circuits that detect open doors.  Typically the first sign of damage you'll notice is that you get intermittent Door Open M or Door Open MB error messages, unfortunately by the time you see them the damage is likely already done.  You can usually verify that by checking for corrosion built up on the battery terminals and surrounding components. If you have a lot of corrosion then realigning door optics/belly switches most likely won't help you clear the error.  You'll need a new MPU board.

The purpose of the nicad battery is to provide backup power to "telltale" circuitry which log security events (primarily door openings/closings) when the AC power is out/off.

Thanks for the comments and help guys!  I just finished doing a key chip config and setting up the printer with a partial pay between the hopper and printer.  Pretty cool machine!  The nicad battery battery will be tomorrow's project.  I think I'm actually done and ready to play it now!  Ha! 

The sounds are great on it.  The only thing that I wish I could change is the spin sound, but it looks like it's maxed out for options.  This game appears to only have the generic IGT spin sound.  Oh well, not a biggie, unless there is a chip that will change that.

After you remove it you will need to do a clear with a 97 clear chip, I suggest clearing it 3 times to really clean that sucker out.  And then after that you need to do a Key 17 and set-up the machine again.  It's a fairly simple process and really worth it to save your board as Tilt and Stat suggests.

Jim, I've got a 31 keychip.  Used it last night successfully.  Haven't popped off the nicad battery yet.  Am I going to need the chips below that you specified?  Also, do I have to de-solder that thing, or can i just 'clip' it off?  I'm not the world's best soldering guy by any means.

Small sharp dikes..I guess side or diagonal cutters is a more PC term these days, not that I really care.  Either that or you can yank it out with pliers like usautoservice did, but I don't recommend that.

I am taking batteries out of mine now. 1 down -5 more to go. when I looked they are all starting to corode.
Tried @ solder and didn't like heat on board.
I support battery with one hand and get between battery and bracket w/fine screwdriver and pry battery and bracket apart.
Then real careful bend bracket back & forth till it breaks off.
Put back in machine & all works.
No set up

I'm 70 and my eye sight is not what it used to be. I have trouble seeing to solder.
Back in the 70's & 80's when I worked on cb radios I had a mag. glass with a light.
I'm trying to find one like I had so I can see again.

It was bound to happen sometime, and I figured it would be Bunker.  LOL!

Used the pliers trick, but all I did was wiggle it left to right and it just detached itself almost like it was held on with chewing gum.  Very harmless.  Put the board back it and it fired up like a champ!  Thanks again for the tips fellas!

I couldn't take it any more.  There were air bubbles and minor residue on the 25 cent sticker.  Made it look like there were little worms behind the sticker...not sure if you can tell by the photo.  Took off the panel and cleaned the sticker, glass, and inside panel.  Reapplied the sticker and now it is "el perfecto."  I'm so sick.
