I have a Bally Gold slot machine that has a 71 error code. I have tried moving the position reader assembly on different reels with no difference...I don't have a spare reel reader control board to try in it.  I have noticed that the machine will not accept coin when first turned on unless I push the reset on the hopper control board ? I was wondering if I might have a bad I/O or a problem with the M.P.U.?? This machine was not used very often before I picked it up, so could the battery on the M.P.U. be needed to be changed? The reel position boards are the older style and they do light up when you run a test. I do have a spare I/O and a M.P.U. out of another machine, but it's a bit new and it has the Infrared Led type reader boards. I would mine swapping out the new Infrared boards for the older 5 volt incandescent bulbs reader. I saw that someone did that here a while back, but I don't want to burn up good parts trying. I hope someone can help, because I'm not sure what I'm missing?? Scratch Head Help

Hi Amachanic ,

Did you try to perform the Reel Reader Test  (# 5) from the manual?  Test #8, Game Function Test will tell you a lot too.  Swapping out your MPU boards if ok, as long as the part numbers on them are the same I'd give it a try, but I doubt that's the problem.

Hi Mark.. I did do the #5 Reel reader test and that all seem to be fine. I have not run the #8 Game Functional Test yet though. Just was hoping for an easy cheap fix. The person I bought it from had it in there basement and let the kids play it once or twice a year. Now I remember it was blowing fuses. I found 1 or 2 broken fuse holders that I replaced. It then powered up but had this error code  Duh!.

The 41 can be caused by door open switch issues.  do the 8 test as indicated.  if the machine plays with the door open - check the 2 door switches - one mounted at the lock - the other inside the bottom hinge of the door.
