I have the MM Lite board already on my GK 3902 board.  Looking to upgrade it.  Anyone know of any available and/or a ballpark price?

Thanks,
Jason

They are available, no problem, but what do you expect to gain out of changing it, and what simm are you going to put in it, unless you are changing the game out to newer GK like 5.0 or 5.3 or an I+ theme you won't be doing anything

Ok, there has been a little bit of discussion around this in the Game King area.  I am new to this and thought that the MM2 would have "sound" enhancements/quality compared to the MM Lite that I already have.  I am not planning to change the game as it currently stands.  I just thought it was a better quality "sound" upgrade, hence the request, but if it's not going to make any difference with my current game, then I guess I'll pass on upgrading.

Just out of curiosity, I wasn't aware that I could upgrade my 3902 GK board to a 5.0 + version.  What is involved with that in terms of parts and what is the benefit?

Thanks,
Jason

The GK 5.0 software is a combo of eproms (for the base and game chips) and Simm cards, CGF, PXL (graphics) and SND (sound). Below is a link to the gameset promo literature. File is too big to post here.  bawling

I'd be curious what a ballpark cost to upgrade the components to 5.0 would run if anyone has the info.

Ballpark:

$50 for MMlite 2 Card

$125 to $175 for GK5.0 depending on who has it and what their price is for it.

Plus Shipping and Handling

Jim, is it just a matter of pulling the MM Lite board, the old base and game chips and dropping in the new components, or is it a bit more complicated than that?

It's pretty much that easy...you will need to do a Key 22.

Do your research before you invest in 5.0.  The math (value) does not add up to me.  Roughly $225 with shipping.  If it were me, I would save my money for the next 6 months if necessary, invest another $600 on top of that and get GK 6.0.  It's a far, far, far, FAR, FAR better value.

By the way I should have mentioned that your I-game needs to be a 25-pin monitor to run 6.0 or any 044 software.  You have a 50/50 chance that it is.  Just slide your monitor out and count the number of holes in the black port at the back right.  25 your good and 19 no good.  19 means you will also have to get a LCD upgrade.

Essentially, pop out old base chip, put in 22, turn machine on, reset all, power down, put in new components, configure in menu?

Yeah, my monitor is a CRT.  Haven't counted pins, but that will probably be the case I would imagine.  Is 5.0 the same deal?

Correct

5.0 will work with your current set once you add a MMLite2 card.

I'm not sure which version I currently have, but it's a 31 game poker/keno/slots/blackjack setup.  Am I correct that 5.x does not come with all 4 types of games installed; rather, a few of each such as only poker and keno, or only poker and slots, but no blackjack, etc?  If that's the case, I may have to stick with what I have.  Decisions, decisions.

5.0 has fewer games but higher end graphics and sound, so it's a trade off.  Here is my list of what is on it but it could be wrong:

Jacks or Better
Bonus Poker
Double Bonus
Double Double Bonus
Deuce's Wild
Joker Poker
Spot Keno
Power Keno
Cleo Keno
Multicard Keno
Caveman Keno
Cleo Slot 9 Reel
Super 8 9 Reel
Leopard Spot 9 Reel

Just a note to let everyone know, I am running a 19 pin analog monitor in my 044 Carnival of Mystery. I am sure it will look better with an lcd or digital CRT, but I think it looks pretty good now.

Dan, that's interesting to hear as I have always been told otherwise.  Do you have and or have you tried a 256 flash...and did it also work?

Hi Alll

I dont think there is a difference in signal between 19 and 25 Pins - The plug  where it plugs into on the backplane board has the same outputs regardless. What I have noticed on a recent batch of 17" is that 25 pins is Tovis and 19 pins Ceronix. There are 19 PIN LCD's available from Ceronix. You do however have to upgrade a video memory chip (8 Pin chip that comes with the kit) on some boards.

PS - Just came across this http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=2387.msg73301#msg73301

Jim, only have had this one game in the machine, but I attached a pic for your consideration.

 Dan (tacman)

BTW the blurriness is from my unsteady hands not the monitor.

Nice game !!!

I've successfully built 044's with 25-Pin CRT's and LCD's, as well as 19-pin LCD's.  I never bothered trying the 19-pin CRT scenario.  I think your game uses a 128 flash.  Just wondering if there is a difference in bit depth between that and the 256 flashes and if that effects anything.   I'm just going to have to do some experimenting to see what I can smoke this time...   Burning Resistor

Thanks Ian...I will play around and see if I can get both a 128 and 256 flash to work in the 19 pin CRT scenario.  I hope you right !!
