Fruit machine my tail feathers !!

« on: September 08, 2010, 09:43:52 PM »

In changing my Vision from Double Diamond Deluxe Bonus Wheel to Ms. Little Green Men the top glass for DDDBW has the LCD on the right. Ms. LGM is center mounted. I bought a center mount. Today I was going to install it and find that my machine's speakers and blocking where the mount needs to sit.

The current speakers are not the "Bat Ear" speakers. but little skinny ones with a black box inside the box top. It looks to me that if I make a cut in the box top the size to fit the longer "Bat Ear" speakers it would just be a matter of plugging the old speaker connections into the new speakers.

Surely it can't be that simple.

I searched NLG for replacing or changing speakers and see that Foster changed the entire box top, but nothing about just changing the speakers. If this has been covered in the past, can you please point me to the right thread? If you have experience with this, as always your suggestions are solicited.

You have to replace top box to use the ear speakers.
You will need the top box, ear speakers, power distribution board, misc harnesses and a few other parts.
I did it to my vision ready machine.

Otherwise, You have to cut back the particle board side to allow the speakers to recess into the top box plus drill holes for the speaker screws and wires
I don't have a shop area do such things so I chose to buy 2 top boxes 9" and Round Top, Due to the topper it takes me about an hour to change it out.

Thanks Foster.

I may be a bit naive but just looking at the top. The sides seem to be held on by 4 Phillips head screws. If I removed the sides and took them to someone with a bandsaw ... snip and snip through the Formica and particle board. A couple holes for the screws and the wires in the metal case. The speakers in my IDOJ (Bat Ears) look like they would just plug into the existing wires in the Ms. LGM machine.

Don't cut your top box just yet... there was a thread on the old site where someone had notched the speakers to fit the Vision cabinet. maybe one of the admins know where to look for the old stuff?

Hello all!

I have had three or four S2000 machines that this was done on.  You could tell someone made the hole in the wood sides bigger to fit the bat speakers and drilled some holes to mount them.  I have not done it myself, but yes - it is that easy and I have seen it.  From the outside of the machine, you would never be able to tell...

I just noticed I still have one...lol.  I have included some pics...

Yes !! That would be ideal, If the Admins might know how to find that thread it would be fantastic.

Dpalmi

That is exactly what I was thinking of doing, but the idea of notching a pair of speakers sounds a lot more attractive than modifying an entire case. Thank you for the pictures, I think I'll download them into my project folder, just in case.

The 2nd picture that dpalmi put up is excellent really and I do think it would work.
Looks like they attached the speakers to a small metal flat bar with
drilled holes to hold the speaker up against the top box.

It's a workable mod but I'm wondering - would it be that impossible
to find the correct Vision topbox speakers instead?
I'm sure that one of our vendors may have the correct pair of Vision speakers to sell you
if you were to put up an ad for your needs in the "classifieds" section of NLG?

Your suggestion is the ideal one. What concerns me the most is finding a box top where the side Formica match's the bottom.
