I have an older S+ that doesn't have a space for a bill validator, when I put a coin in the machine it makes the correct sound.  I can adjust the volume knob so that the sound of the coin in goes up or down but no reel sound.  Settings 1-3 are on all others are off.  Any help appreciated.

Turn the power off.
Take out the MPU board and make sure dipswitch #3 is "ON".
Re-install the MPU and turn the power switch back on.
Drop a coin and you should be in business!

Depending on the SP chip in use, you may have to reach zero credits (play them out or cash them out) before the new dip setting will take effect.  In addition, newer SP chips ignore the dip switches and use a setting to turn reel sounds on or off.  What SP chip do you have in your machine?

I took the board out and recycled the 3 dip switch to off then on, no change still no reel sound.  No credits are on the machine.  The chip was maybe a 1048?  I have some newer chips that I can change if you feel that might work.  I will be out of town far a few days and will update when I get back.

I don't think you cycle it, just change positions.

If it was a SP1048 that means it uses the DIP switches for reel sound.. #3 must be set to on for reel spin sounds. Switches 1 & 2 are hopper limit and are ignored for this chip.

If you have a newer chip you may try it... you might have a bad copy of the 1048.. try a 1271 or higher.

See Ricks FAQs - (Blue Button in the middle of the home page).

He has instructions on how to identify your chip without having to pull it, or read faded/innacurate numbers from tired labels.

I'm glad to hear it's working too!  applause
We're you ever able to get into the settings to see
what SP chip version comes up on the display?
There's no way that chip is an SP1048 - it's something else... Scratch Head
