I replaced battery and mailed to customer. They installed board and at power up code 61 appears, as it should, now the problem, pressing test button makes no difference.  I tried shutting door with 61 code and turning reset key.  I had some machines a few years ago the had the same problem, it was corrected by grounding the the green wire in the back of the cabinet behind reel 3.  I tried that but it made not difference.  This machine is about 50 miles away so any suggestions before I head that way is appreciated.

Seriously, see if they will buy an S2000 from you and take the S+ as small trade 75$ this may eliminate the S+ issue and your customer will be happier with and upgraded machine.

We have seen 61's that won't clear a good number of times on this forum.
The solution is to use a Clear Chip.
You then of course need to do a number of other setup options after the fact such as re-establishing desired hopper limits, reel sounds, etc
Then you will also need to use a set chip to re-init the DBV.

Remember on the S+ platform there are two CMOS chips. One is in the fixed motherboard and the other in the removeable MPU board.
So this is not somthing you can do for your customer and then ship him the board.

So, do you use 2 different clear chips to get rid of the 61 code?  A complete explanation of where the clear chip(s) go would be helpful to many of us.

Error 61 is a standard error after a game change. Under normal circumstances you should be able to clear this without any special chips.
See the Game change section of Ricks Faq's (Blue button in the middle of our home page) or the link below.
http://www.newlifegames.net/faq1/

We have had several people complain that their 61 won't go away - this usually occurs after a battery change (error 12) and the CMOS has been screwed up.
There are two CMOS chips - one is on the fixed board (Motherboard) and the other is on the MPU (removeable board). These two chips have to be in sync as this is how gaming statics are tracked.

When this occurs there are two chips you need.
Clear Chip.
Set Chip.

The purpose of a clear chip is to wipe both CMOS and bring the game back to factory new condition.

To use a Clear Chip you (power off) remove the MPU board, simply replace the game chip with the clear chip - please pay attention to the small knotch on the chips as if you put them in backwards you fry the chips.
You press the Self test button and the coins played will begin counting down when it gets to 0 the clear is complete and you can then remove the clear chip and insert the game chip again.

Once again you will have a 61 which is standard - but follow the instructions in Ricks Faq pertaining to a game change and it will clear and the game will play.

You will however find that things like reel sounds, stop sounds, are absent and that the hopper limits etc are all back to factory settings.
Following the PSR (Program Summary Report) you can then use the self test button to step through the menus and turn these features back on and change settings to the desired values.

Each game chip has a unique PSR - If you post what Game chip you have some kind soul will probally send you a PSR. Again you will find in Ricks Faqs the way to determine your game chip.
R273 has also written a "simplified" guide to the PSR as they are not the most straight forward document for a new owner to read. Once you have these two documents, reading the PSR will macke much more sense and you will be reading PSRs quickly.

The other thing you will find is that the bill validator will no longer work. You need the SET chip to set the denomination so the DBV knows how many credits to give for a dollar.
There are also several different SET chips. The PSR will specify which is the best one to use.
Generally speaking a Set 15 or Set 26 are pretty universal. A set 15 does nickle, dime, quarter, dollar etc. While a Set 26 also allows the use of Pennies.
there are also other set chips so I again recommend requesting the PSR and following the recommendation.

To use the Set chip you again remove the game chip, insert the set chip.
The specific instructions can again be found in Ricks Faq

Hope this helps.

Just to add my two cents....I have been clearing my S+ by removing the CMOS Ram chip, wait ten seconds, and then replacing it.  I usually get the 61 code back but am able to go through the sequence to clear it (open door, self test switch, 61  1 appears, close door, reset switch, and presto!) On the boards I have, this is the chip to the left of the game chip.  Now I have read that on some versions of processor boards the only way to reset the option is with the clear/set chips.  Anyway, just my two cents...
