Vision game change error

So, I bought a Vision game (offf eBay)and followed the instructions for the game change from the manual, and I'm getting the following error:

Multi-slave : System error occurred.
Crash Type : Invalid pointer
No VSound VxD found


The versions  I received with the game are as follows:
Game chips: SG000380
Base chip : SB000198
Version chip: VS011GX1
RFA shows 10012 (what it was before) and I can't get to the screen that will show me the ATA version, if one exists.

Am I correct in assuming it's the LCD version software that's causing the issue, as the game only came with one PCMCIA card, and it only has a label that reads "Fishin Game" on it?

brichter, RFA 12 is pretty old since my Pink Panther has RFA 27 but it may be compatible with that game set. I've never seen that error before. I believe that the ATA version # will load on the screen at startup. I guess the card BGM is supposed to be 044, SB is 197 or 198. You said that you are doing a game change? Maybe the other game needs a newer RFA? Does the game that came with it run OK, or did it never boot up and run?

The ATA for SG000380 needs to be ATA10065 and the rfa should be upgraded to something higher like RFA22 of more.

So, I need a primer on the Vision LCD file systems, I guess.

1: Where does the RFA reside, on the top PCMCIA card or the one on the side?
2: Same question regarding the ATA version?
3: What's the procedure for upgrading them?

Bonus question: What do the acronyms stand for?

And now something not quite completely unrelated: Does anyone have PSRs for SG000018 and SG000380?

The RFA is in the flash ram built onto the vision pc board.  You need the upgrade software to upgrade it.  The upgrade card would go in the left side slot.

The ATA is on the flash card that goes into the top slot.   That can be upgraded by simply copying the ATA XXXXX folder onto your card.

Thanks for that info, Jeff. And that explains wwhy my Vision didn't come with a card in the left slot. One other question: Is it necessary to downgrade the RFA when changing games from a newer one to an older one?

No, not required.

When you do the RFA upgrade, the card does not need to always reside in the slot. Once the lcd board has been upgraded to whatever RFA you install, then the card comes out of the slot. It is not like the ATA car, which has to reside in its slot to run the game.

That's a good idea Jim.  That should work.  The old version chip should be used too.

I'dd rather have the new GME and version chip (I actually didn't even need the version chip with the kit, as I already have that one and use it with my Haywire Deluxe kit for that machine).

If I decide to go that route, I'd like to know a little about the file structure in the card and hear about any workarounds for the issues I've heard about with copying these cards on Windows machines in threads on the old site (I'd want to backup my working copy for the old game berfore I make any changes), also any card size limitations.

Just so you know, the only advantage of the SG000380 is that it will do a split screen vfd and multi-denomination using the extra button on the bet deck if you have one.  All the other features are casino related.

Correct, I like the split screen and my new button deck and harness is provisioned with the extra hole for the switch, but would go with the old chips in the meantime.

If you have PCMCIA slots just pop the flash card in it and copy the folder off of it to back it up.  The copy the new folders onto it deleting any folders you are replacing, namely the BGM and ATA folders.  The others are common to all the flash cards.

I remember reading stories on the other site that Windows can corrupt the disk.

Just remember that the cards are formatted in FAT not FAT32.

Ok, with old ATA and new BGM the results are as follows:

Doesn't work. The machine isn't even waiting for the lcd to come up, but the LCD will go to the Windows screen (I have the jumper on J1), then goes black.

On the VFD I get a "system error", turn the reset key, then a "game type is not linked 0x305", then I turn the reset key and it tells me to press the test switch for 2-3 seconds and the LCD has a "COM link failure" error on it.

Pressing the test switch for 2-3 seconds prompts me to close the door, then the whole process repeats.

With the new ATAand new BGM on the card, I go back to the red screen and the VxD error I had before, so obviously I need the new BGM and the old ATA on the card.

Both tests conducted with the old GME chips and version chip, and the new Base chip.


Any other ideas? It looks like I need to configure the Netplex, as the machine doesn't wait for the LCD to boot like it did before.

So, the seller notified me the kit came from a game with RFA25 installed, so I installed RFA24, which is good enough to get the game working.
