Hey everybody  I  going to look  at an IGT 5Times pay tonight.  Its pre TITO and no bill validator.   Coin only.   The guy wants $299 For it.  Is that a Good deal being it has no bill validator, or just an OK price.  Also what are some of the things I should be looking for problem wise.  All replies welcome.
Thanks,   Mike

For being on the east side of the country, that's not an awful price.  It's not spectacular, but it's not awful.  See if you can talk him down to $250?

If you have a picture of it, that would be good to post.  If it's a multi-line game that adds to its value.  If it's a round top or a 16" top that adds to its value.

As far as what to look for, see if the mounting brackets are in place for the bill validator.  If it's a pre-validator machine, that complicates things a little as the only option would be to add a side-mount bill validator.  Again, a picture or two of the outside and the inside would help us to determine what specific model/generation machine it is.  Make sure there are no obvious signs of water damage (Katrina).  It should be very obvious if it's a Katrina machine (lots of rust, salt deposits, etc.).

See what kind of coins it's set for -- nickels (or nickel-sized tokens), quarters (or quarter-sized tokens) or dollar coins.  If it's dollar coins, it'll take a little bit of $$ to convert it to quarters or nickels, which is generally more desirable (some prefer the dollar tokens, but again that's an added expense...).

If you're able to,  Please Post Pictures.

For a working machine in decent condition, that's a great price.  Shipping a machine could cost you that much.  Are the reels quiet?  Tongue Out

Thanks,

OK  its a round top. set for quarters and very clean.  The glass and reel strips have good color (no fading).  And yes the reels are quiet. So I bought it. I going to get it Saturday or Sunday depending on the weather. I will post pics as soon as I get it home.  Like mopar said it would cost almost as much as  I paid for the machine to have one shipped. So at $299 total I feel like a got a good deal.   The guy had posted it on craigslist, but was so vague that most people probably thought it was a skill stop machine which worked out good for me.  applause   Frank it was in Richmond, VA.    Mike

Good deal. Best of luck with it. One word of warning, they seem to multiply once you bring one into the house.

Ok heres some pics so y'all can tell me what model IGT I got. Its in the garage until I find a spot in the house for it. I'm thinking the wife really doesn't need that dresser of hers.  That would make room for it and two more : stir the pot / get cooking.    I will post later if I need somewere to live.  arrow

It's an early pre-dbv S+ from around 1989-1992. There is an S+ MPU board on the left side of the cabinet that plugs into a motherboard with an EEPROM. The S board doesn't plug into another board. It has three large wiring harnesses that come directly off of the board and is generally located in the back where the newer S+ boards go.

Here are pictures of an S board from previous posts:

I might be off a bit on my dates. If someone knows exactly when the S+ started to replace the S slot, and when the embedded DBV was introduced, please post. yes

I know that I won a progressive jackpot on an early pre-dbv S+ in December of 1991, and it was on a bank of fairly new machines. I had seen external DBVs in early 1991 but didn't see embedded DBVs until quite some time after hitting my jackpot.

David .. this may or may not answer your question or questions others may have ..

I posted the second response that the machine was an S+ since Foster's original post stated it was an S model before editing. All S model CPU boards that I have encountered were mounted on the back wall and the S+ w/o internal DBV was mounted on the left wall. A CPU board for an early S+ model is has the self test switch mounted on the CPU mounting frame. The self test switch can be seen in the prevoius posted pictures.

From what I know the S model ended production in 89/90. The S+ w/o an internal DBV started production at that same time. Early models of the S+ continued to used the same retangle buttons as the S model. Sometime between 90 and 93 the change over to the square buttons occured. This may due to the stock IGT had and decided to deplete their inventory prior to a complete change over to the square button. There are 92 machines that I know that has the square button. I have never seen a 93 model w/o an internal DBV leading me to believe that is a very close date to the change.

It sounds like my date range of 1989-1992 for the non-embedded S+ was very close then.  Thanks & K+.  applause applause

Thanks for all the response. It appears that I have and S+.  Good catch on seeing the '92 on the ratchet mech. The date of manufacture on the side of the machine is so faded that I couldn't read it, but after reading the posts I decided to look again. So armed with the wifes reading glasses and finding the right angle I was able to make it out. It was made 08/1992 which make this machine extremely clean considering its age. Thanks again for all the posts.
