I recently installed a set of backlit reels, the correct reel harness, and backlit control board into my Crystal 7s S2000. Plugged everything up but I don't get any lights on the reels while playing or under the backlit reel test. Checked the bulbs and they have continuity according the to multimeter.

Ideas on what to check?

And you have the harness lead going from the backlight control board to the cabinet I/O board also?

The one from the left side of the backlit controller to the little board on the side of the mpu that pulls out with the small handle? yes that one is plugged in. I had it plugged into the board in the back of the cabinet where the reel strips plugged in but this caused a Reel 1 and Reel 2 tilt error.

have you tried cycling the machine on and off since correcting that? I'm not sure if that could have damaged the backlight control board, but it sounds like you've got it wired correctly now. The cabinet I/O board I beleive is what controls which lights turn on and when because it's not used on machines with non-backlit reels. And this might be a dumb question, but is there a cable from the back of the cabinet I/O board to the motherboard on the back of the cabinet also? You should have a plug off the reel harness to the motherboard on the left side of the cabinet, the plug off the reel harness to the backlight controller on the right side of the cabinet, a plug from the backlight controller to the front of the cabinet I/O board and a plug from the back of that to the motherboard

Didn't think to check for a cable from the cabinet i/o board to the mpu. I'm at work currently and i'll check it when I get home.

FYI the cabinet I/O board is used on uprights with or without back lit controller.
Meters are one of the things operated by the Cabinet I/O board.

Got home and checked the I/O board. Cable is plugged in the back securely. Backlit board has all the plugs in it. Swapped the I/O board from my Cigar machine and that didn't change anything. Is it possible that power connector that feeds the backlit board is unplugged from the power supply?

you should have 3 connection on the backlit board.  1 from cabinet i/o, 2nd from reels and the 3rd plug is from the power supply.  This wire is usually hard to find because it is tie wrapped up near the plug on the right side of the power supply.  When the machine is on the reel lights should all be dimly lite (they get brighter when a win is paid).

hope this helps
