 new  Hi Guys

I have a standard hopper that keeps jamming the coins between the Guide ( i thinks that's what you call it) It's that sharp pointed piece of metal that skims the rotating disc and the deflection plate that rises as soon as the disc starts to turn, it then pull back when the game tilts with a 33 error.

do theses machines have to have a certain size coin. I have added a photo and the red circle are where the coins jam

Regards

The guide is called a hopper knife. When they start to bend and get coins stuck behind them they usually are toast.
You can replace these rather inexpensively.
Sometimes you can remove the knife - warm it with a hair dryer or stripping gun and then lay a heavy set of books on it to flatten it out.

In general terms the hopper uses different wheels depending on the size of the coin.
The spacing and height of of the slots differ by coin size.

The purpose of this is to lift the coin up to the correct height in order that it can pass freely through the coin optics (u shaped plastic thingy with wires coming out of it on the top of the hopper).

Depending on the type of the hopper it will either use a holly wheel or a pin wheel both of these do the same job. But a holly hopper is a holly hopper and a Pin hopper is a Pin hopper.
Yours appears to be a holly hopper - a pin wheel has pins coming out of it and the coins lay between the pins vs sitting in slots.

Jay, I think that's a pinwheel hopper. I circled the visible pins in yellow. Also, I don't think that Holeywheel hoppers have visible coins shelves.

Rookie, it's hard to tell from the picture, but in addition to the knife being worn out, the pins might be too far apart for the coins being used.

I also noticed that the knife is not sitting flush with the shelf wheel (there is a gap). You can see the gap in your lower red circle. That would also cause problems. You might want to start by adjusting the knife so that there is no gap between the tip and the shelf wheel.

Your hopper looks like a US quarter size. The US quarter is 24.26mm in diameter.
The "deflection plate" is called the coin deflector. You said it rises? It should pull in behind the rotating plate. When the last coin is despensed or an error occurs, it will push out and deflect any coin in it's path back into the hopper.
Your knife does look a little worn, but not bad. I can't see it pulled away from the disk? It should be flush to the rotating disk where the coin rides on it.
The coin deflector is driven by a solenoid. Sometimes they can gum up. A little WD40 on the shaft where it enters the solenoid helps.
Also, excercise the coin counter (the screw looking thing to the left of the coin deflector. Make sure it goes up and springs back.

Here are some pics of a quarter hopper with quarter sized tokens.
They did make different sized wheel disks and knifes for different sized coins. Yours look pretty close to what they should be.

This is my last post until 11/18/10 as I will be unavailable.

Thanks for all you info guys>

My deflection plate seems to be working in reverse when the wheel stops the guide goes down and when it spins it comes up and hence the jamming.

i will check this weekend.

Sounds like either you do not have the small sub-board at location 1A, it has eight dip switches, or dip #6 is ON. If you have the sub-board, make sure dip #6 is OFF.

I had a look and the dip switch #6 is off.

Should the Guide be energised at switch on and then stay energised.
My guide is down from switch on even if i reset.
What energises this coil ? and what pin point number is it on the big molex plug.

thanks

Guide? Do you mean coin deflector?
The hopper receives 100Vac from the Gray and White wires. This 100Vac then goes to the relay board in the hopper next to the motor. When the MPU board tells the hopper to operate it sends a 5Vdc signal (pink wire) to the relay board activating the motor and solenoid relays. Starting to sound like your relay board (relay for solenoid) is bad as both the motor and solenoid should run off/on together.
Note; The schematic below refers to the coin deflector's solenoid as the Kicker solenoid.

Let me know what game you are running and the machine chip #.

Hi Uniman

Sorry for long reply been away for awhile.

It seems like the yellow and the brown wires switch the deflector and motor on respectively.
If i disconnect the yellow wire the solinoid does not activate,  so it seems that there is a ground potential continuously on the yellow?
When you switch the machine on does your solenoid pull in and stay in and then release once the motor starts to turning?
what Voltage do you have on your yellow wire going to the relay board ? and where does it get this voltage or ground from ? because i think this is where my problem is.

My Game is called " Dream jackpot " I cannot see the chip as the writing on it is unreadable.

Thanks once again
