Am I correct in my assumption that the SP731 allows for selection of song on Type 5 games and SP1145 & SP1271 does NOT allow for selection of song?

The story goes that the songs were removed to add in more accounting features.
The progressive options which are also available in the 731 were moved to the set 90.

You would think that with the money IGT made, they could have soldered one little chip on their boards?? Scratch Head
Or put a little larger one, maybe something that could accommodate a little more memory perhaps?
Maybe a little more song selection? Bad songs?
There's only one name for that.......CHEAPSKATES! Tongue Out (just kidding) rotflmao

While there are a FEW members here that like the accounting features, many of us would like to get some music back in our games. (as crappy as they are).
I would think that one of our programing geniuses could design us a chip like the 1271 that kept the good features, dumped the advanced statistical crap, and added the music back.
Maybe even some new songs!

I like the way you think.  applause

Unfortuantely it was only a few games that had the music.  bawling

I would think if we could use an existing 731 with music and get it to play on all games we would be 1/2 way there.  yes

A 1271 with sound for the limited number of games that it works on really isn't worth the trouble.  Scratch Head

I use the 1271, 1274 combo because I don't have to use a set chip in between.
When I go to a 731 for music, it's a pain in the butt to reprogram.
If there was a chip, or chips that did it all, I'd be one Crappy Hamper, er', Happy Camper.

The ones and zero brainiac's will have to look at both the 731 and 1271 to decide the easiest route to go.

I have to use the newer SP chips in my machine if I want both my internal Mini-Photon progressive meter and my external ChamII+ progressive meter to work at the same time.   Tongue Out

What I would really like is a SP chip that would cycle between the music on its own.  That is, on a spin-til-you-win game (like Coral Reef) which allows for song selection, that it would play song 1 on the first spin-til-you-win, song 2 the next time, song 3 the time after that, etc.  It's unfortunate that you can choose songs, but then you're stuck with the same one until you go into the machine and choose another one.

...oh, and can this be moved to the S+ forum?

What would be cool is for a chip to be modified to play a song when you hit a top jackpot instead of the stupid "ding ding ding ding ding ding".  I never understood why if their already music on the chip to begin with why it wouldn't use it???

A simple mod would be to use a 24v relay connected up to the Bell contact.
You set the S+ to ring on all wins, then you connect it up to one of the pre-programmed music chips, like the ones they use in the Hallmark Cards.
There are even the ones that you can program with your own voice or in our case a MP3 sample.
Thats like a $7.00 investment.

Having not actually done this what I am not sure is how accessable the battery would be, or long the built in battery would last.
Also I am unsure on how to output through the existing S+ amplification system but I am sure it would not be too difficult.

I'm just like edski. I use the 1271 & 1274 so I don't have to "set" after game changes.
I have 731 but haven't messed with it for the same reasons mentioned by edski. Just doesn't
seem worth the energy. It would be nice though if there were some sound options with the 1271 & 1274. Duh!

cool, moody operatic music comes on when you hit the jackpot with a game like Star Wars would be cool.
Or the theme bit from the "Pink Panther" song when you win,
Maybe "We're In The Money! song, etc.
those are all on my mind as to the possibilities that
could be downloaded to an old junky MP3 player hooked up to the J11 (Bell output) plug on the motherboard.
A speaker wire from the MP3 player gets spliced into the S+'s speaker.
I'm working on the mods at the moment! Tongue Out

I have a SP731 game chip on my S+ Coral Reef slot and would like to change the respin song but can't seem to get past self test 50.  I think the song setup is self test 60.  Can someone help me out?  Is there a manual for setting up options with the SP731 eprom?  Thanks in advance.

Game theme must be a type 4(spin til you win) or 5 (4th of July) or type 12 (Fever) to be able to change the song.

The SP731 PDF is in the submit a new file section, link near top of page.

SP 731 should let you change it.

Any credits on the machine?

Is it possible you put in a different SP chip with Coral Reef?
I know the newer SP above 1048 wont let you change songs, lost due to extra accounting features.

Still can't get past test 50.  Does the reel chip installed matter?  Right now I have a Ten Times Pay chip installed but thought the game chip controlled the song selection.  Maybe the reel chip matters too?

Unless the reel chip supports song selection the option won't show. The only games that support song selection are the respin games. You can't change the generic spin sound which sounds like what you're trying to do.

I see.  I'll have to put in the coral reef reel chip to change the respin song for the coral reef game.  I was trying to hear what the available songs would be for coral reef without changing to that reel chip.  I'll change the reel strip and go from there.  Thank you very much for the help.  JR

What really gets me is that the PE+, from the same era and using many of the same parts, does just that -- if you hit a jackpot, it plays all of the songs that are in the S+ chips in a row as the "jackpot" tune, and loops.

If not, I'm working on a little gizmo that'lll play anything you want using one of the recordable singing christmas cards.
