I just acquired my first digital slot at Chicagoland 3 days ago.

My 1 line Big Cheese slot has a message MON PORT DWN and doesn't take bills.  I assume this is an abbreviation for MONEY PORT DOWN.  I can hear the bill accepter 'cycle' for about 10 - 15 seconds at power on.  Has someone on this forum encountered and resolved this problem before?

Everything else is working fine and I have tried the reset key on the right side but that didn't resolve the problem.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Actually, that stands for "Monitor Port Down".  The game is looking to talk to a Slot System, as it would in the casino.  Go into your setup for Comm and change it from whatever it is (GDAP, BESS, SAS or whatever) to NONE.  That should solve your problem... Good Luck...

I'm sure that everyone reading this post can see this one coming...

First, thank you very much for your reply!

Like I mentioned, this is my first digital slot machine, I have no experience with a slot machine, and no manual for my CDS Big Cheese machine.  FYI, I repair my own pinball, bingo pinball, bowling, and baseball machines so if I have adequate information I can take care of this.  I mention this only to show that I can follow instructions.

So now my questions are:
1. Do I connect with a laptop, serial cable and use hyperterminal?  If so, is the connection 9600, 8N1?
2. When I connect to this slot machine, will I see a setup screen?
3. I don't know what GDAP, BESS, SAS mean, but I do understand NONE.

I apologize for asking what are likely basic questions, but the CDS portion of this forum appears to be smaller than for the other vendors so I need to ask for more detailed information.  Again, I thank you for you help so far.

One more question: Did you mean to imply that when I set the Monitor port to NONE, the bill reader will work properly?  That would surprise me, but I will go with the flow and trust your experience.

Thanks in advance again for any assistance,  BigCheese (Mike)

I found the CDS 320 user manual and hardware manual online and downloaded them.  I will read through them and perhaps the answers to my questions are in them.

I reviewed the user manual and followed Simon's suggestion to set the monitor port to NONE.  Simon, you were right on target !!  The moment I set this to NONE, I heard the bill accepter start cycling.  It still won't accept bills and I believe it was in the Machine Test menu that I checked its status.  It has a 'Stacker' problem.  I got home from work very late last night so I didn't have time to investigate what a Stacker problem is, but I will get to it tonight or tomorrow night.

Thank you again Simon for your help!
