12 error code will not clear with safe ram clear

Hi ,thanks again for the help,you guys are awesome!!! I believe the battery in the s+ machine hase been dead a while.Replaced the battery(which is showing 3.55 volts) and did a safe ram clear 3 times now and pop the game e-prom back in and she powers up and gives me a big 12 in the window. Any ideas? You guys rock!

There was really no need to do a ram clear.
I change batteries all the time and never have to install a clear chip.

To clear a [12] error code after a battery change, simply open & close the door.
If it doesn't clear - check that battery again or better yet, please show us how you
soldered to the board with a good, clear  hi-resolution photograph?
We might be able to pick something up...

I concur - The 12 goes away after a battery change.
You might (probably) will get a 61 or 65.

We have seen several 61's that won't clear after a battery change and a Clear chip is needed. Never ever a 12.

I would suspect that the battery is either not making contact, you replaced the wrong part with a battery or perhaps soldered it in backwards.
No disrespect intended in my reply here.

As already requested a picture would be good.

if he can do a clear then the board and the displays are working, usually with a dead battery you can not access anything or do any functions.  sounds as if the cash can door or something to do with the optics (reset) is not seeing the door closed, therefore it cannot reset the error message.

Hey guys,I went to pull the board out and take a picture of it,I decided to clear the mound of solder that was there from previous and in doing so, I found a old battery tab and whatnot.Cleaned up the contacts and it is working great now!!! Thanks for the push to check things again,you guys are awesome!

I suspected something wrong with the battery installation.
That's why I wanted to see the board. Good job!

how do you do a clear ram three times with a dead battery?  or an improperly installed battery?  same thing  dead battery

Since the clear chip clears the EEPROM on the motherboard, perhaps the machine doesn't care if the MPU board has a working battery or not when the clear chip is installed.

That's something new I learned today!  
I unsolder-ed the (+) side of the battery, installed a
clear chip and put the MPU in.
Powered up and I was shocked to see that I was allowed to press the test button to
begin the clear mode countdown (count up? lol)

I took the clear chip back out and put in the SP chip and
powered up....sure enough, I got a [12].
I re-soldered the (+) side of the battery back onto the MPU board and powered up.
Sure enough - the [61] comes on, pressed the test button once to get to [61-1] and
close the door and turned the key and then got a [65-1] code.
I opened the door and pressed the Test button once and the reels spun.
No more [12].

I did not know the board would work without a battery and clear chip before!
