Recently received a question on the pull handle of the Ultra Series slot.
Here are ways to troubleshoot most common problems with the Ultra Series pull handle.
Note: When troubleshooting the handle it is a good idea to remove the reels and store them in a safe location because finding new reel strips is next to impossible!
Problem; Handle sticks in the down position.
This is caused by a sticking return spring. In the pic below there is a small plate with two screws in the bottom left corner. Remove the screws and plate. Attached to the plate is a spring loaded cam. The grease on this cam is jelling up. Add a little light weight household oil to the spring and excercise the cam until it springs back on it's own. Reinstall.
Problem; Handle will not release after coins/credits are added. (cannot pull the handle)
First check wiring to handle mech. The two blue wires from the solenoid should go to the relay board mounted on the wall behind reel #3. The three optics wiring should go to the backplane board behind reel #3 to a nine pin connection labeled CN6.
Each optic has a three wire connector. All have a pink (5vdc) and a black (ground). The uppermost optic (Reel Start SW/Optic) has a yellow with black stripe wire. The middle/right optic (Handle Unlock SW/Optic) has a brown with black stripe wire. The lower (Handle Return SW/Optic) has a red with black stripe wire. Make sure they are connected properly as the connectors are interchangeable.
Next check the solenoid operation by running outport test #8. Press the green test button eight times and you should see 80000 in the win meter. Then press the spin button until you come to 80704. (Don't worry, you won't need to press the spin button 704 times!) Then press the MAX bet button to activate the solenoid. You should hear and see the solenoid activating. Pull the handle to release the solenoid and press the MAX bet button again, you should see and hear the solenoid activating. If not, you need to disconnect the solenoid connector and test for 110vac when running the test to determine if it is the solenoid or the relay board that is bad. (close the door to take the machine out of test mode)
If the solenoid checks out ok, then check the optics. To do this run inport test #6. But first unscrew the optics from the handle and pull them out. Leave them wired to the machine. Press the green test button six times until you see 60000 in the win meter. Then press the spin button until you reach 60305, this is the Handle Return Switch. There should be 0000 in the credit meter. Now pass an object through the optic (flat screwdriver, piece of paper, etc) and you should see the credit meter change from 0000 to 0001. This assures the optic is working. Now press the spin button and go to 60306 which is the Handle Unlock Switch and perform the same test. Then to 60307 which is the Handle Reel Start Switch and again, perform the test. They should all be 0000 when not blinded and should be 0001 when blinded.
Hope this helps!
