All of a sudden one of my Bally s5500 machines wants to reset by itself--also sometimes the jackpot bell will ring one time--I have cleared the ram but it still does the same thing--any thoughts possibly a weak power supply--Oh battery checks out fine--machine has been working great for three years--this is just a little strange Scratch Head

Hmm...that IS strange.
Do you have another power supply around to swap out with?
Something's going on there...

the power supplies on that machine  only lasted a few years   if you had it for three years and someone had it before you then its probably the power supply.

usually when you first turn it on after it has sat overnight, the bill acceptor will cycle , the reels will unlock, then after a few minutes the machine will operate normally.

its usually the +5vdc that drops below 4.8vdc under load. you can monitor this at the power plug on the backplane (J-12)  pins 7 or 8 =+5vdc, red/red-blue wire)  pins 9 to 13 =ground (grey type wires)  you can insert your meter leads into the back of the plug until you touch the top of the pin, usually enough pressure is applied that it will hold it in place.

inner replacement power supply available from many sources, cost is around 35/40 dollars

Thanks guys--The machine had a bad fluorescent in the belly glass--I removed the bulb and it has not done a reset by itself since--yes I do have spare power supplies--but this one was replaced a year ago--it was a brand new unit that I got from Jim at Blueridge--I will wait it out and if it continues to act up I will replace the power supply--just very strange it would all of a sudden reset by itself--Thanks John T

I have had this same problem with a Bally 5500 ( I never felt that it was a problem, more like a attract feature ) No one in the room with the machine and you hear it play one game just like pressing the Max Bet button. ( some times it even hits a winner )  This doesn't happen very often and really not worth the time to fix. But I would first replace the micro switch in the max bet button, wiggle all the wires going to the Max button, and last resort exchange the MPU with a known good one.
